A probably hopeless suggestion on how to make THIS the last JK thread...
Edited on Wed Nov-01-06 01:35 AM by Atman
Seriously, I tried to figure out how to make this point without starting the roughly 160th new "John Kerry" thread, but couldn't. So here it is. I promise, I will not start another.

It serves no purpose joining a thread only to tell the op not to post it...the damage has been done, and each new post only serves to keep the thread "above the fold" where more DUers can pile on, further supplying oxygen to that which should be suffocated out of existence.

The ONLY way to stop new Kerry threads is to IGNORE THEM. COMPLETELY. Don't even click on them and read them, because now the new "VIEWS" log can lend validation to the poster that people actually give a shit. If we all totally ignore such threads, they'll fall off the page into obscurity rather quickly, as they should.

Now, the ironic trouble with this approach...if you ignore THIS post, it will also disappear, and its message lost for those who need it most. Perhaps the mods can pin it, or write and post their own similar plea.

But dear god, people need to use some common sense! I mean, here it is, after 1:00 am on the east coast, and people are STILL asking "what did he really say?" and some are even posting anew about "the remark" as if DU -- DEMOCRATIC Underground -- might have been busy discussing Gilligan's Island reruns or something and somehow missed it! It's freakin' nuts!

So anyway, that's it. Take the pledge with me...DON'T RESPOND to new "John Kerry" threads. There is literally nothing to add which will not fit nicely into one of the other 160 JK threads already in GD.

Oh, and finally...K&R this thread so it doesn't fall off page one.

;)

Atman out.

2. Oh, so YOU can post one...
j/k it's hopeless...better to kick your thread on the disintegration of Baghdad, which is of infinitely more importance

3. Post-count log? Huhhh...?
No kidding?
I am, as usual, ignorant regarding those terms.
What the heck is a 'post-count log'?

And Kerry should fire everyone even connected to his machine.

OK, maybe I am a little hysterical.

But I would have waded thru the room with a baseball bat.

Swinging.

Tom

9. My mistake...not "post count." I meant "VIEWS"
Post counts are in your profile, and always have been. Skinner added the # of views stats yesterday.

11. Thanks and OK, Atman...
And that Kerry business is all too old, but still tragic.

I certainly hope that not too much of my money is going to the idiots who trotted him out with that shit.

That's the kind of business that keeps me awake at night.

To paraphrase OldLeftieLawyer:

"We are fucking up fucking".

7. He put the attention back on Iraq. Right where it should be. This is a good thing.
Many people do join the military because they have no other options open.

That is a fact.

Many people don't. And even the way his statement was made didn't say that everyone who joins the military wasn't able to make it through school. It came from the other direction: Folks who can't make it through school often have the military has their only option.

That is a fact of life in every nation in the world.

He has restated his support for our troops. He has recomplemented them. He is a decorated veteran (and therefore a former "troop") himself. Bush has never served in combat, nor have the vast majority of the Rethugs in Congress. He has also restated how pissed off he is that the Republican leadership is pissing away our honorable troops to try to keep their Republican majority.

12. Left coasters, please...
It may be futile, but try to keep this one alive...so us east coasters don't have to wake up tomorrow to a hundred new threads saying "Gosh! Did you guys hear what Kerry said?"

G'night!

17. I'm not sure it's necessarily the problem, but you can't help but wonder...
...if some DUers aren't using the VIEW count as a sort of popularity poll beyond the recs.
