Fan chunks drink at Babs during Bush skit
By M&C News Nov 1, 2006, 0:42 GMT

Diva Barbra Streisand may enjoy making fun of President Bush during her current tour, but the singer didn’t find it very amusing at her Monday concert when a fan felt the need to toss a drink at her during the skit.

Streisand's publicist, Dick Guttman has stated that a fan tossed a cup of some kind of liquid at the stage during Streisand’s Fort Lauderdale concert, but that it didn’t manage to hit the legendary singer.

This is the third time that the diva has angered her audience with the Bush skit (which includes a Bush impersonator joining the singer on stage). Streisand, 64 and an outspoken critic of the president, was heckled at Philadelphia concert at the beginning of her 20 city tour, and made headlines when she got a little expressive with a fan at Madison Square Garden in September.

Although the skit has caused some fans to become angered, Streisand has shown no signs that she plans to remove it from her current act.

1. Something tells me that wasn't a Streisand fan at all
The last time he was a professional heckler. Who in their right mind would go to a Barbra Streisand concert and NOT expect her to express anti-Bush views?

10. Actually, a drink isn't all that improbable...
In some venues, seats are set up around the stage and drinks are served. Granted, it's for the higher-priced ticket holders.

Still, if someone wanted to hide thier drink from an usher, it's quite possible if you know the tricks. But if you throw it, you deserve to get your keister thrown outta there pronto, no matter who you threw it it at OR why!

13. enjoy the show!

I'm starting to wonder whether the Bush impersonator (Steve Bridges), a former youth minister who claims to be a supporter of Dubya, might be changing his mind about the administration's policies. He's smart enough (and he's been a professional performer long enough) to know about Barbra Streisand's political views, so it's not as if he had no idea what he was getting into. And he certainly isn't lacking for gigs, since he does regular bits on Leno's show and has a lucrative sideline doing corporate events (he pulls down more than $10k per appearance, more than the actual Bush makes in an evening, though he does share it with the makeup artist).

Perhaps he saw that FOX News, which had lauded him for his "alter ego" appearance with Bush at that press dinner this spring, suddenly turned on him and slammed his act? And also Barbra is continuing with their arrangement even though she could easily have dumped him when the first negative reviews started coming in. (Apparently they retooled the script and shortened it a bit, in time for her Canadian appearances -- the critics gave her and "Bush" some pretty good reviews.)

Then Stephen Colbert took a rare step out of character to defend Bridges on his show, calling him "a nice guy". (I assume that they spoke backstage at the press dinner, after Colbert did that speech which drew the GOP's wrath.)

Seeing how loyal and supportive Streisand and Colbert are might get him thinking. He seems decent, and even if I find his jokes corny at times -- I prefer Will Ferrell's edgier version of Dubya -- if those two (probably not the easiest people to impress) are sticking by him, he's okay by me.

It takes guts to do that, knowing how vicious that Bush klan is.
