Zell to the Rescue! Miller leads Democratic coalition for Santorum
With not a second to spare, either. :eyes:

http://www.cnn.com/POLITICS/blogs/politicalticker/2006/10/zell-miller-leads-democratic-coalition.html

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Former Sen. Zell Miller, a Georgia Democrat who supported President Bush in 2004, will head a new group of Democrats supporting Pennsylvania GOP Sen. Rick Santorum's reelection bid.

"I am not involved in any other race in the country," Miller said during a radio interview Monday, according to a news release from Santorum's campaign. "I am only doing this for Rick Santorum. I believe in Rick Santorum's leadership that much."

Santorum is trailing in public polls to his Democratic challenger Bob Casey, Jr.

Miller alienated his Senate Democratic colleagues two years ago when he endorsed Bush and campaigned for him in his successful reelection bid against Sen. John Kerry, D-Massachusetts. And in a fiery speech at the 2004 Republican National Convention, Miller criticized Kerry's military strategy.

"This is the man who wants to be the Commander in Chief of the U.S. Armed Forces," Miller said. "U.S. forces armed with what? Spitballs?"

5. "Miller says he feels a bond with Santorum...
in part because of their deep, mutually shared love of dogs. In a related story, Miller is reported to have challenged Casey to a duel; a man saying he was Miller's second presented the challenge at Casey's campaign headquarters, and offered the Pennsylvania Democrat his choice of weapons. More on this as it develops."

13. I have a personal Zell Miller story
that still amuses me all these years later, and I think of it every time he does something crazy.

When I was young, still a teenager in fact, I had a temporary part-time job working as a file clerk at the Office of Pardons and Paroles for the State of Georgia. At that time, Zell Miller was the head of the Pardons and Paroles Board and my desk was about 20 feet from his office.

One afternoon, I was putting some files away in a filing cabinet that was parked right in the middle of the clerical staff's open plan office. Zell walked past me on the way to his big private office when all at once he did a 180 degree turn, walked back to me and said: "Young lady, I sure do like your shoes." That was all. Then he turned and carried on heading back to his office.

To this day, that still cracks me up for some reason. I have no idea if he was actually referring to my footwear (and they were some mighty fine shoes, I have to say) or if it was a euphemism for something else (can't imagine what else "shoes" could refer to except "shoes" though). Why was he looking at my feet? Does Zell Miller have a thing for women's shoes?

Like I said, I think of it every time he says something stupid. To paraphrase the Republicans talking about Harold Ford, Jr.: "Zell Miller - He's just not right".

Edited on Wed Nov-01-06 05:41 AM by IanDB1
Of all the repukes he could try to rescue, he chooses Santorum? Who is almost certainly going to lose, anyway?

Where was Zell when Alan Keyes was in trouble?
