1. .
Lol, joke poll? It depends on what you consider a yes or no for your options in the title ;).
At the moment, I really don't know. Kerry's response was good but I don't know whether his explanation will be in the voters mind or the smears of the rightwingers. I hope it's a non-issue that won't effect anyone.

conversations that point out ShrubCo's botching of everything they put their hands on, is what we need now, now that his incompetence has touched all.

4. Respectfully , Your Poll Is Confusing
The options should be helped or hurt...

I guess we only have to wait six days for an answer...

The Dems were poised to win

-fifteen to fifty House seats

-four to eight Senate seats

-five to ten Governor's races...

That's the benchmark by which Kerry's remarks will be judged and there is nothing his most vocal supporters or detractors can do to change that equation.

8. No
He's put his foot in his mouth one too many times for me. "I voted for it before I voted against it", and now this.
A guy as smart as he is should know that anything he's likely to say that may give them any opportunity to twist his meaning will be pounced on and beaten to death by the pukes.
Seriously - he's just handed Karl Rove a get-out-of-jail card for this election because he "botched" a joke.
It'a almost Freudian how Kerry does it.

10. John Kerry Is Like A Lot Of People Here.
They are incredibly well educated and must have aced their SATS, GMATS, GRES, and LSATS.

But intelligence must be tempered by common sense and wisdom... The smartest guy in the room doesn't always win...

One of my professors had an interesting theory on why there was so much tension between academia and business...He theorized that the A students went into academia and did good while the C students went into business and did well...

In that little observation is a great deal of wisdom...

14. There's Some Real Bright People Here...
Lawyers, Doctors, PHDS, etcetera...

But the problem is they only talk to people who think like themselves and consequently think everybody thinks like them...

Whatever Kerry said or didn't say, to Joe Sixpack it sounded like Kerry said "bright people go to college, dullards go into the armed forces."

That's not good...

21. It Doesn't Matter What I Think...
Edited on Wed Nov-01-06 06:50 AM by DemocratSinceBirth
I could go to downtown Los Angeles, Chicago, or New York, stand naked, and repeat Karl Rove's talking points and not move one vote ...

But for better or worse John Kerry has the ability to move millions of votes and in the final analysis that's all that matters...

And the ability to distinguish between the two is the difference between intelligence and wisdom...

33. You think you know Joe Sixpack?
That's a laugh. You must think Joe believes the stupid rovian spin?

You think Joe doesn't know that the armed forces are at the bottom of the list in life ambitions?

You think that Joe can't figure out the simple truth that Kerry was calling bush a dumbass?

I know Joe, and you ain't Joe.

13. This poll plays Rove's game. I'd prefer a poll on who supports our troops.
You are addressing Kerry's words in the context Rove wants you to addresses them in. Have we considered any of the other multitudes of words Kerry said that day with such weight? No. Just what Fox News is trumpeting to its followers.

Peace.

18. Here's a suggestion.
Let's forget about Kerry and his sorry attempt at comedy and get on to other, more important, things. There's no need to perpetuate this episode when there's so much to work with on the other side.

24. But we will contribute to keeping it alive if we continue to
have so many posts discussing it. This is a 2 news cycle story at best, unless we want to beat a dead horse and keep it going until election day. I'd rather discuss Felix Allen's arrest warrants or Baghdad going to hell because of the Republicans failed policies or the racist attacks on Harold Ford, etc., etc., etc. In the grand scheme of things, the Kerry story is insignificant. Our response to any Republicans reading off their talking points should be "Bush should apologize, end of story." We need to collectively put our fingers in our ears and chant, "La, la, la, la, la."

29. I Agree...
Respectfully, I can't make my point clearer.

DU doesn't control the news cycle... I don't care what Kerry said... I care what the voters think Kerry said... I don't have a bully pulpet...

I would much rather discuss Senator Macacawitz's racist perfidy or Maliki double crossing Bu$h but I don't control the media...

We lost two fucking news cycles.. This isn't about John Kerry... He can take care of himself... This is about winning Congress and restoring checks and balances to our government...

32.  We just end up hoping more will vote like us
Usually most do not vote on one thing. I do not think this is a war vote any more than it is a SS vote or storm vote. It takes, usually, a number of things to move people from how they do things. And it is usually slow. The Dem. may have been shocked when they lost in 1996 but it was in the back ground and coming. Now I am not saying I am right but this is how it looks to me and I have been voting for 50 years now. I usually say it is like a wave. When it gets just right over it goes and then starts up once more.

23. Anyone with common sense
can look at that clip and see him start to stumble over his words, then look at his notes and lamely finish up that sentence. He botched whatever he meant to say and they jumped all over it. Unfortunately more will read the words than see the clip and it's quite obvious that there is no common sense amongst the rw'ers.

I have to admit this is the first time I've ever wanted to see the dem's come out swinging and fight back. Bush has provided more idiotic remarks than any writer could ever pray for....

26. You need another category
That ultimately it won't matter in 2006.

It clearly won't help - unless it managed to become a focus on Iraq. THat would take all Democrats quickly saying he was speaking about Bush's Iraq policy which is ..... If a Republican had a similar awfward statement, it would pass. The problem is the spin given on the statement and the fact that media is often re-prasing the comment to say what Kerry didn't say.

The Republican would have grabbed SOMETHING - last week it was Harold Ford and Jim Webb. Something somewhere would have been used to change the subject from reality.

With a hostile media, Democrats have to be perfect. People aren't - especially when they take on campaigning schedules that Kerry and many do.

For 2006, I hope the candidates do whatever they need to do - though I hope most wait to see if it blows over. Kerry is still who he was 2 days ago, but he will likey need to deal with it, preferably after the election for his own purposes. It does show how badly things are stacked against Democrats. He has a 35+ year as a friend of veterans which he also used to defend himself.

I think he probably need to emphasize that he respecte thre troops and thinks they are smart...but I also want this issue to die quickly.
