TEHERAN - Iran is to hold renewed military exercises throughout the country, including in the Persian Gulf and Sea of Oman where naval manoeuvres led by the United States currently take place, the Fars news agency reported on Wednesday.

The commander of the paramilitary Revolutionary Guards (IRGC), General Yahya Rahim Safavi, said that the exercises would begin Thursday November 2. Code-named “Grand Prophet (Mohammed) 2,” the operations are to run for nine consecutive days in 10 provinces, mainly focused on the Persian Gulf and Sea of Oman, the general told reporters.

Iran held its last military exercises in August and proclaimed to have successfully tested its first home-made fighter plane Saeqeh (Lightning), similar to the US F-18 fighter but redesigned and remodelled by Iranian experts.

“The most important aim of the manoeuvres is to show Iran’s firm willingness for defending the country against any kind of threats,” Safavi said.

1. This should get the ball rolling!
The odds for a confrontation will rise exponentially. The chance for an incident, purposeful or otherwise, are very high now. In fact almost unavoidable. Put on your party hats folks and dress your children.

2. Kind of playing right into bushco's hands
but whatever was going to happen will happen regardless of what Iran or anyone else does. You can't stop the runaway juggernaut that is PNAC.

4. I don't know about that playing into bushco's hands
Iraq invited us in and Bush still invaded them.

Iran might figure if they are going down they might as well go down fighting.

If some country known to invade and occupy countries for oil started massing ships and troops around us I would hope our leaders would show enough sense to send our military out to take them on before they landed on our shores.

Seems like the logical thing to do.

3. Maybe They Want To Roil The Oil Markets...
Think about it... The more disruption Iran causes the more they benefit financially because it's a threat to the oil supply...It's a great game...
