Kerry to Imus: "Of course I知 sorry for a botched joke."

http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2006/11/kerry_says_of_c_1.html

Kerry Tells Imus He's 'Sorry' for 'Botched Joke'

ABC News' Tahman Bradley and Teddy Davis Report: While calling into Don Imus' program this morning, Sen. John Kerry (D-MA) said: "I'm coming back to Washington today so I'm not a distraction because I don't want to be a distraction to these campaigns."

...

Asked by Imus: "Why not apologize?"

Kerry said: "Of course I知 sorry for a botched joke."

Asked about criticism from Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), Kerry said he thinks his fellow Vietnam veteran has been wrong to support sending more U.S. troops to Iraq.

...

Kerry said his comment couldn't have been directed at members of the military because you have to be smart to get into the military. "You can't get into the military today if you do badly in school," said Kerry.

...

Kerry added that what would screw up 2006 for the Democrats is if "we shift the topic off of Iraq."

1. unfortunately for the republicans, this is a non-issue
It will now be taken off the rader, and the focus will be back to the death and destruction that this administration, and republican congress caused in Iraq, a war that was based on a lie

The blood is on their hands, the medias hands, and those that don't vote

3. And what will HELP take it off
the radar is for DU to stop posting the numerous threads discussing Kerry and the GOP media attempt to make him an issue in next week's elections.

The focus of DU on Kerry succeeds in dividing the Democrats and keeping focus off of the Bush criminal gang's failures across the board.

6. If the Repukes could actually play the audio, they would be making
it into the new "Dean Scream" ... but when someone hears the audio of it, they can hear that it was a joke, and Kerry was not psychotic about it ...

7. I have yet to comment on this on any thread, but
I will here.

Kerry's joke was deliberately misinterpreted by a GOP smear machine not interested in the truth. For the chimp to go out and publically accuse Kerry of not supporting the troops is beyond the pale, and he owes Senator Kerry an apology - something along the lines of "I'm sorry I'm too stupid to get your joke that I'm stupid" would suffice.

Kerry's impassioned defense yesterday was great, except that it got very little attention from the whores who were too busy repeating repuke talking points to notice. Those who did comment on it managed to insinuate that he hurt Democrats with his remarks. They cut the guy no slack. I wish he had come out and simply said, "I misspoke yesterday and botched a joke. I'm sorry I messed up the punchline, so I'm going to repeat it for you here and now so that my intent is obvious...." Then tell the joke, using Bush's name about five times so it's impossible to miss the point. Then declare "matter closed" and walk off the stage.

When you are dealing with GOP thugs, the only course of action is to "Keep it simple....because they're stupid."

8. Amen!
"Keep It Simple Stupid" certainly applies when dealing with repubs.

Well said!
