Kerry to Imus: 'Swiftboat stuff all over again'
Kerry to Imus: 'Swiftboat stuff all over again'

David Edwards
Published: Wednesday November 1, 2006

Calling into Imus' show on MSNBC, Senator John Kerry said that the controversy over a "botched" joke he made about President Bush is "Swiftboat stuff all over again."

During a campaign rally in Pasadena, California, ahead of the November 7 congressional elections, Kerry was making comments Monday on the importance of education when, according to a spokesman, he misspoke while trying to make fun of Bush (see earlier report by RAW STORY).

...............

Kerry told Imus that he would only apologize for his "botched" joke.

1. This probably isn't the last we'll hear of it either.
I 100% guarantee that if Kerry is planning to run for the nomination in '08, this will come back in attempt to knock him out of the primaries. I hate to say it, but I don't think it will be the repukes that will bring it back either (though they'll be more than happy to jump all over it when it becomes a story again).

2. The Repubs will spin Kerry's "apology"...
"We're happy that Senator Kerry has apologized for his comments and perhaps we can now move on..."

4. That's right. Rove is trying to leverage Swiftboating this year.
None of their other themes have been successful. This is utter desperation.

They probably have some polls showing high negatives for Kerry in certain key districts/demographics because of the sucess of their smear campaign in 2004 and they want to wring the last drops out of that effort.

Make the election about Kerry and get more mileage out of those Swiftboat attacks. That's what they're thinking.

Not gonna work this time.

5. Let's get some message discipline here
Our candidates need to have the spotlight, not John Kerry.

Our candidates have well crafted messages they've been winning voters with. These leads Dems are picking up are not by accident or because of GOP screw ups.

Dem 2006 candidates are ahead because of hard work and disciplined, focused message campaigns.

Everyone should just back off and let the candidates get back on track and focus on the messages that are working for them. That includes John Kerry. He can retore his reputaiton after Nov. 7.
