It's one thing for Red State Democrats to vote yes for Alito |

but it's FUCKING traitorous for them to vote for cloture and not simply abstain and allow their colleagues to have their say. If the Dems can't understand this simple point we really are in a pickle.

1. hadn't thought about abstention. Has it been discussed |

Why wouldn't those who are opposed to Alito simply not vote on cloture. As I understand it, cloture requires an affirmative vote of at least 60 senators; if all the repubs and the two or three Dems that are supporting Alito vote for cloture, they don't get to 60 (at least not from what I've read).

2. That's right. And a yes vote by a Dem |
|
on cloture when they can abstain is actively going against their own party. The Republicans must laugh their asses off when this shit happens. Can you imagine it happening the other way around? Hell no. Why? Because they have their act together. It's an evil psychopathic act but in this aspect they have it together much more than ourside does.
