That's by looking for the word 'Kerry' in the Subject Line of the Original Message ... so it doesn't count the threads that sidestep the direct mention of 'Kerry' in the subject line (like this one, for example).

It doesn't count LBN, either.

It's outrageous overkill and self-centered arrogance on the part of many of those original posters - as though what they started a new thread about was so fuckling 'unique' or important that it wasn't already said countless times ... if they'd even bothered to read what others posted (which we don't).

The rudeness and disrespect being shown to others on DU is appalling, imho.

For clarity's sake, I do think that Republicans are twisting Kerry's words and his response yesterday was very well done. On the other hand, if he had just gotten it right in the first place, that would probably have been better.

And glad you feel that way about Kerry. I'd disagree and say that Kerry did get it right in the first place, and the Repubs are furious because they are terrified that America will understand him. THAT's the real reason behind this over-reaction. It's a typical Republican response--redirect the argument so that the truth is considered a terrible thing to say, so people are afraid to speak it.

Kerry's comments exposed a painful truth about the invasion, the economy, and the educational system, and there are just too many people out there for whom that truth means something. The Republicans have to make that subject off limits as quickly and as completely as possible, before the victims of that truth wake up.

Shame on ANYONE agreeing with the Republicans over this.

but I think they needed to be added to the Democratic platform asap. People are people. I was born with brown skin and I'll die with brown skin. Why? Because that's who I am. Some people were born gay and they will die gay. Why? Because that's who they are. My brown skin doesn't make me any less human although there are some ignorant people who believe it does. Being born gay doesn't make a person any less human although there are some ignorant people who believe it does. I deserve the same rights and privileges accorded every other citizen of my country. GLBT people deserve the same rights and privileges accorded to every other citizen too. If I want to adopt a child, buy a house or allow my life partner the right to determine if I should be resuscitated I have that right without fear that it will be denied to me based on something I had absolutely no control over like the color of my skin. GLBT people should have the right to adopt a child, buy a house and allow their life partners the right to determine whether to resuscitate them without fear that they will be denied based on something they have absolutely no control over like their sexual orientation. I have the right not to be discriminated against by my own government if I choose to enlist in the military. GLBT people should have the right not to be discriminated against by their own government should they choose to enlist in the military. I have the right to marry, so should every citizen of the United States.

I want what was expressed in the Declaration of Independence, "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness," for everyone.
