ENOUGH About John Kerry!
Enough about John Kerry! This is not 2004, it's 2006. Why don't we get back to discussing the upcoming election instead of just feeding into the media frenzy about Kerry's comments. This election is not about Kerry, it's about taking back congress and taking back our country. The media and politicians should NOT be the one controlling what we the citizens talk about or worry about, so stop letting them. It's up to us to keep them talking about the real issues.

13. Enough already is right
You are correct. Now let's move on to the next thing--nailing down the close races. Here in Nevada, it looks like Dina Titus is about to pass Jim Gibbons in the race for governor. We need to pound some pavement here and get the word out about just what a sick womanizer Gibbons really is. It also looks like the Police Department in Las Vegas is trying to help Gibbons so all the more reason to get back to what counts--races we can win!

20. Hi Charleston1
:hi: Up north, Jill Derby(D) is closing the gap with Dean Heller(:puke:) for NV-2. You know they're in trouble if Bu*H is flying into Elko.

31. Hi sgcase
I did not know that Jill Derby was closing in on Heller (bent). Yes if the big blue and white plane is coming in it is a sign of deep concern in supposedly safe northern Nevada (NV-2). Frankly I find Gibbons to be a disgusting man who is just now getting caught in some of his ongoing shenanigins. I met Dina Titus in Las Vegas a while back, her husband was my chemistry teacher at UNLV! She is a great person and will be a great governor! I have not been here in a while so if I am bit rusty please excuse me.

3. but ... but ... troops and supporting them and whatnot.
:eyes:

Anyway, it's a fine point, and one that other DUers have made and that some politicians (*cough*Harold Ford*cough) would do well to take note of. We can change the focus if we make this a nonstory. Democratic politicians should brush it aside -- and so should we, for that matter.

6. It is still the top story on all of the cable news channels.
We really don't want to hear it any more. It is like the media is trying to rub it in so that we lose the election. I want to talk about Iraq and the economy, etc. All DU'ers should not mention it any more. Lets all find something else to post about. I totally agree with you that they are trying to make it look like 2004 all over again.

7. Hi Ava! you are so right...
it's so sad what happens when a small piece of distractive meat is thrown this way - and how people get suckered in so easily.

there really should be a stickie topic for times like these.

9. Let' s get on with the election
Hopefully Kerry will shut up for now. He has caused a hugh distraction. Only he can be blamed. Every pol knows every word, facial expression etc is being watched and commented upon, especially in a campaign season.

17. Exactly.
Here's how I did it:

Got an email from my one right-of-center friend, who had obviously been salivating to send it to me:

Subject: You are smart!

And it is a good thing to, because if you were stupid, you'd be stuck in
Irag! HA! How funny is this?

My reply:

How funny is what?

His reply:

Don't tell me you didn't hear about the Kerry comment? Whoopsie, he just handed the election to the Neo-cons. Wow!

My reply:

Yeah, okay...you sound like Rush.

His reply:

Whatever. This story has some legs. And the troops are chiming in and they are fucking pissed. You do remember that I am not an "R" or "D", I am a spectator to this, and there is little to me that is as entertaining as watching partisan politians go down in flames.

My reply:

Not gonna happen. But thanks for playing.

And guess what? He hasn't written back all day! I didn't get hysterical, defensive, or pissed off. I blew him off and gave the matter exactly the attention it deserves - zero. He slunk away with his tail between his legs. Man, he wanted me to argue. But I didn't give him the satisfaction.

It seems some people here are more interested in eviscerating or apologizing for Kerry than the election. IMO that is allowing the Rs to get away with changing the subject by feeding their fake outrage. This isn't about Kerry. This is about delivering a long overdue ass-kicking next week.

On edit: K&R :)

21. Here's the original joke (what he was supposed to say):
Edited on Wed Nov-01-06 03:14 PM by Cooley Hurd
"I can't overstress the importance of a great education. Do you know where you end up if you don't study, if you aren't smart, if you're intellectually lazy? You end up getting us stuck in a war in Iraq."

I mean, it's obvious it's a (pretty docile) jab at Bush. If he told it the way he meant, it would've garnered 3 or 4 threads on DU.

It's all the republicans have left (with only 6 days to go), and it's weak.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled program...;)

23. Put your talent to work and create a video of bush's stupid blunders.
You'll have lots of material. Start with that horrid "Those WMD must be here somewhere" and finish with "They never stop thinking of ways to harm our people, and neither do we."

I know you can do it, Ava.

Can someone suggest background music for the video? I wouldn't have a clue.

32. How is it?
How is it that Bush says a billion stupid things and nada happens. Kerry says one thing, phrased in a way that can be twisted out of context, and the shit hits this fan?

This is asinine.

24. Ah Yes
I just heard the beginning of Randi's show in the car. She had a little segment from 'republicans determined to change the subject'. The did a quote from Kerry yesterday and then said 'as you can see Kerry wants to force the troops into gay marriages'. It was hyterical and it is just what they are trying to do, change the subject from Bush's war, from his lies, from his destruction of our Constitution, from Foleygate and on and on and on. We need to lead the discussion with what is important to talk about and it isn't what Kerry said or didn't say. Stop being distracted we have an election to win in less than a week.
