Kerry has the spotlight, apparently, but there are hundreds of candidates actually running for office that could use a little spotlight.

I'll use my brief GD moment to write that I hope that Madrid beats the crap out of Heather Wilson in their House race. I think this is the best chance in many years to get Wilson out of Congress and back to where she belongs - sitting in a warm tub wondering what the hell she did with all those wasted years.

Your candidates? How are they doing?

1. I think Teddy Kennedy's going to pull this one out.
Deval Patrick should do okay too.

11. Did Kennedy ever get an opponent?
I'm probably way behind, but last I heard the Republicans were having trouble getting anyone (or at least anyone that could even touch him) into the race.

14. He's unopposed...
I'm not really disappointed, but it seems to me a sad state of affairs for their party when the current governor is a repuke and they can't even put up an challenger for a senate seat.

2. I think Jim Esch is doing well...

Nebraska, 2nd district, against incumbent Lee Terry. You can see clips from their debate at http://www.jimesch.com. A Republican friend of mine saw my yard sign for Esch and wanted to know what office he was running for (she's new to the city and not quite up to speed on local politics). I told her that he was running for the House, and she asked if it was against that Terry guy, and I said yes. And she said, "Well that settles it--I'm voting for Jim Esch." And I said, "Really?" And she said, "Yes. Lee Terry is a pompous ass."

Music to my ears!

The funny thing is that I told the Esch campaign office about that remark, and Jim Esch's dad laughed and said that he had gotten a phone call that day in which another person used the same phrase in reference to Terry. There seems to be a consensus. And they were thrilled to hear my friend is a Republican.

This is a fun thread, MoseyWalker. I hope lots of other people jump in on it. :)

4. Ohio Dems are doing great
but the Ohio GOP is still trying to suppress voting and invalidate votes with their illegal schemes.

They have totally screwed up the absentee voting regulations. We'll be fighting those results in court for months unless there's a Dem landslide.

7. Rodham Clinton, Spitzer, are a slam-dunk, Cuomo should be fine.
I'm most interested in John Hall's candidacy for Representative of the 19th District. I think it's neck and neck (different polls have different numbers) but he's the one I'm really hoping for. Sue Kelly is rubberstamper for *.

9. I think my congresswoman, Melissa Bean will pull through
Its sure to be a close race though.

I already early voted for her and Blagojevich, but I wasn't very enthusiastic in voting for him.

12. Casey is beating Santorum (YAY!!!) but Porter will probably get the crap kicked out of him by...
Fat Phil English again. English has his grubby little paws in every Republican scandal you can name (from Abramoff to Foley) but for some reason, far beyond me, the Dems can't seem to find anyone legit to run against him. Kudos to Porter though; he's suing the English campaign for defamation of character in dirty ads. Porter lost 60-40 in 2004 so maybe he can bump it up a bit now. But I don't think the DCCC or the DNC has given him much, if anything, to work with.

13. 1st District Of West Virginia Is Safe - As Is Our Senator Byrd.
Edited on Wed Nov-01-06 07:07 PM by ThomWV
No one here is happy about voting for Mollihan many have their doubts about him but we can all hold our noses for now and get rid of him in '08 if rumors of misbehavior by him prove true. I won't judge until charges are brought and proven.. Right now we need the House - which we are going to get, and the Senate, which we will probably get.

15. Menendez is holding on, Viola Thomas-Hughes in NJ-2 is doing good, our district is strangely absent
of GOP lawn signs. I've only seen two, and I've seen at least a dozen of Democratic signs, which is strange considering that these are GOP suburbs. My own household has switched from 3-0 for the GOP in 2004 to 2-1 for the Dems this year. I think you're seeing that reflected across the suburbs here in NJ. If not for Corzine and the Dem government shutdown, it might have been a blow out. Still might be.
