Edited on Wed Nov-01-06 04:13 PM by FLDem5
"sorry to soldiers who took it the wrong way. I will continue to fight..." blah blah.
Yesterday's was more moving.
It was really short.

18. Thank you!
It's good to know there's someone who can listen and repeat the actual words or at least the gist of the statement.

No cable here, I rely on DU to give me the facts.

4. He should just read a list of all of Bush's flubbed lines
And then say how it all proves his original point that Bush=dummyhead.

25. People's expectations of Bush speaking are pretty low.
My advice for all high-profile Democrats in the remaining few days of this campaign is to leave the jokes to the experts and just talk about the issues. Kerry messed up the joke, said he would not apologize, and finally did apologize. Spin it any way you want, that does not look good.

10. If he said this 36 hours ago, this whole ordeal never would have happened.
We would still be focused on the 100+ GIs that died in Bush's war in October.

15. They hadn't been MISINTERPRETED by so many at that point. The truth
still had an opportunity to get out there.

I'm SORRY that so many newsmedia fed the MISINTERPRETATION and that so many Democrats chose to as well.

The Bush handlers with the help of the media fed this misinterpretation.

14. The fact that this is even considered news....
This is one of those "I'm rubber, you're glue" kinds of things anyways. Kerry didn't insult the military, but even if he did, does saying it make it true? Do the men and women in our military have such low self-esteem that a comment not even directed at them can insult them to such a degree?

It's just a bunch of idiots getting their panties in a twist over nothing.

Specify who the "idiots" really are -- the GOP, their talking heads, and the media for abetting them.

22. heres some food for thought
Edited on Wed Nov-01-06 04:25 PM by Jim4Wes
Clinton said it best really....the Dem party has an image problem. You know many people that I talk to vote on the trust thing, or call it the gut factor, as much as on certain issues. They don't know what to think about certain issues unless someone who meets their gut check tells them what to think.

So if public statements rub them the wrong way it most certainly can change the gut factor.

I think people want to overlook how politics works when it doesn't work in their favor. Its a natural reaction probably.

23. it would have not mattered if he apologized sooner
it would NOT have gone away. this is a typical red herring tactic by rove. The fact of the matter is that he botched the joke. and that is what they are running with. And I really feel sorry for the troops if they get sucked into the propaganda and actually believe that a decorated veteran would insult his own kind. thats what is really sad.

24. No, troops are smart enough to know Kerry didn't intend to insult them
But the Republicans and their footsoldiers take the troops to be dummies, and expect them to buy their accusation that Kerry's mangled sentence displayed what he really thought.

28. Groan. Not even 24 hours without a retraction. No concession of an election
with that? Wait and see how long the apology will be played now... as "not nearly enough" - you bet.
Good ol' Kerry - for a few hours I thought he grew up.
