The Kerry Remark is a NON-ISSUE |
|
Regardless of what he said or what he planned to say, what ended up being said is absolutely true.
Recruiting has been as bad as it has ever been for the military and they have lowered their standards, including mostly the EDUCATIONAL standards, to accept just about anybody.
So what he said was true. And there is video and photographic proof that they will go to the poor regions and approach them with 100% blatantly dishonest lines about helping them become famous rappers or basketball players.
Clinton and Levin should shut the fuck up. Kerry shouldn't backpedal, he spoke the absolute truth.
Every single policy in this Administration is designed to profit the rich and crush the poor. Tax cuts, energy assistance and school lunch funding cuts. Changes to Medicare. Iraq is absolutely no different.
Big oil and Halliburton are reaping the rewards while soldiers, comprised by a LARGE AMOUNT of poor kids, are dying so Bushco and pals can make off with billions.
Fuck apologizing or changing the framework of the statement. The statement is ENTIRELY TRUE.
Republicans just can't handle the truth (as evidenced by every single moment and incident in history).

Since opinions on popular topics are moot in your world after you've heard a couple.

3. Can we live in reality please? |
|
Of course it's an issue. I can't say how big an issue it is, but as an issue, out there in the public realm, it's sucking up a lot of oxygen. I don't like that this is true, but I'm not going to pretend or rationalize to the point where I miss that. I'ts all over the media and all ove the web. I suspect this faux controversy is reaching a saturation point where even people who pay very little attention to politics, are aware of it.
Will it effect the election. I don't think it will have a major impact, but I don't rule out it working either for or against dems- though I think it's slightly more likely that it would be the latter.
In any case, it happened. I don't know the best way it could have been handled. It's just unfolding the way it's going to unfold.

4. We need to handle it the way they handle their issues |

Downplay it and ignore it. We say it's not an issue repeatedly and it isn't. Seems to have worked for Republicans and every scandal they have ever created. Very few ever have more than one newsday's worth of traction because of it.
Hell, they've almost wiggled out of this Mark Foley mess because of it.

6. although it does expose a number of REAL issues |
|
For instance, the Democratic party leadership has no means of quickly rallying around a struggling companion with a unified message and sticking to it. Instead of circling the wagons, we circle the firing squad.
Also, it displays in gory detail how beholden the corporate media is to distorting Democrats' positions when it can potentially help the GOP. Fair and balanced, right? Just think of how much the media outlets had to ignore in order to waste time on the non-issue.
There are real issues here, but you're right, they're not about the Kerry remark.

Republicans are eating their own out of desparation because we're on the verge of crushing them next week. Democrats eat their own on a regular basis.
It reminds me of Ripley speaking to Burke in Aliens: "I don't know which species is worse. You don't see them fucking each other over for a percentage."
Democrats are always considered spineless BECAUSE of these very situations.
