REID: BUSH & REPUBS Need To Apologize For Blaming Troops For Failures
Edited on Wed Nov-01-06 06:48 PM by kpete
"John Boehner ought to be ashamed," says Reid, according to the release. "He's blaming our troops for failures in Iraq. If he wants to cast blame, he can start by looking in the mirror because he and his Congressional Republican colleagues have rubberstamped the Bush Administration's failed policy for nearly four years."

The Boehner brouhaha comes a day after Sen. John Kerry (D-MA) defiantly refused to apologize for what he called "a bungled joke" that seemed to knock the education level of soldiers in Iraq, as reported earlier at RAW STORY. Kerry capitulated today, apologizing to troops if any offense was taken. The Bush administration has attempted to capitalize on Kerry's gaffe, with cutting statements from both President Bush and (soon) Vice President Cheney. Democrats are shrugging off the episode, eager to return the focus back to the war itself.

"Our troops in Iraq have performed bravely," continues Reid in the statement. "It's political leaders like Congressman Boehner and Donald Rumsfeld who have failed.

"I expect President Bush and Congressional Republicans, who demanded John Kerry apologize, hold their own party’s majority leader to a much higher standard. There's no spinning his disparaging comments. He made them. He needs to apologize."

1. americablog has it too . . .

Harry Reid demands John Boehner apologize to the trooops

From Democratic Senate Leader Harry Reid's office:

Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid released the following statement on House Majority Leader John Boehner's decision to blame the troops for Republican failures in Iraq.

"John Boehner ought to be ashamed. He's blaming our troops for failures in Iraq. If he wants to cast blame, he can start by looking in the mirror because he and his Congressional Republican colleagues have rubberstamped the Bush Administration's failed policy for nearly four years. Our troops in Iraq have performed bravely. It's political leaders like Congressman Boehner and Donald Rumsfeld, who have failed. I expect President Bush and Congressional Republicans, who demanded John Kerry apologize, hold their own party's majority leader to a much higher standard. There's no spinning his disparaging comments. He made them. He needs to apologize."

---

House Majority Leader John Boehner: Wolf, I understand that, but let's not blame what's happening in Iraq on Rumsfeld.

Wolf Blitzer: But he's in charge of the military.

House Majority Leader John Boehner: But the fact is the generals on the ground are in charge and he works closely with them and the president.

2. Keep pushing this story!
Hopefully the MSM will cover, even if only to give the impression of "balance" like they did with smearing Reid to counter the real news about Abramoff.

4. Yes indeed!
This was certainly no joke--the Republicans are literally BLAMING the troops for Bush & Rumsfeld's abysmal handling of the Iraq invasion, from beginning to end.

9. Hot damn! Now if they would only list the things congress has passed and failed
to pass that turned out detrimental to our troops. Like not funding body and truck armor and proper newer helmets, cutting their benefits, sending back troops suffering from PTSD which endangers everyone out there... the list goes on and on. I wish they would spit out a list of those things while they're at it. Let's see the voting and (non)veto records on that stuff.
