Liberal network in talks about sale

Associated Press
Published November 1, 2006

NEW YORK -- Air America Radio is talking to several parties about a possible sale and is hopeful of reaching a deal before Thanksgiving, a lawyer for the liberal talk radio network told a bankruptcy hearing Tuesday.

Tracy Klestadt told the court that the privately held company was in discussions with seven different parties about a sale and was "very hopeful" of reaching a deal by Nov. 22, saying there was a "significant amount of interest."

Klestadt declined to say who the potential suitors for the company were, and a spokeswoman for Air America also declined to comment.

Air America is continuing to operate with financing from an investor group led by RealNetworks Inc.

Armstrong Williams on Air America radio
Nov 1, 2006

Is cash-strapped Air America radio veering to the right?

The liberal media outlet, which recently filed for bankruptcy, is said to be considering syndicating conservative commentator Armstrong Williams’s radio show.

<snip>

Williams’s show, co-hosted with liberal Sam Greenfield, is already heard on WWRL during morning drive time and a source said there have been serious discussions about broadening Williams’s audience.

Air America struck a deal this summer to move its New York home from WLIB to WWRL. The source said that as part of the deal, WWRL wants the Williams/Greenfield show syndicated on Air America radio. Such a deal would bring in more cash to WWRL, and word is that Air America is on board. But Air American does not want to syndicate the Williams show before the elections, which would presumably rile its liberal listeners.

7. and it is a total travesty
of what Air America is supposed to represent.

Williams defending Bush, both of them introducing enlightening subjects such as "What's your pet peeve?"

8. the whole point AAR plans to keep them
- they don't talk about it until after election, WHY, because it might "rile its liberal listeners".

I know I heard hosts present the fact that Williams pgm(and even another pgm if I remember correctly) had contracts and that is why they would be on air when AAR moved. I personally do not care who they carry, but TELL the TRUTH. I think the article speaks for itself.
