Stop me if you've heard this one before....
"If a kid stays in school and studies hard, he may be able to dodge military service and become a wealthy Ceo, like Dick Cheney did."

"If that same kid drops out, he may find himself knee deep in a bloody war because he had to enlist in the National Guard to supplement his minimum wage job and obtain health care."

I know I'm late to the party on this, and everybody's probably sick of the story, but I was busy yesterday.

On the bright side, I see the media backing off already, apparently willing to give JK the benifit of the doubt. Even, to some degree Fox "News". (Though I'm sure Hannity will still pretend mouth-foaming outrage tonight)

1. average cost of 4 year degree is now $30,000, and all grants and aid is cut severly..if you go to a
tech school you risk having that entire trade outsourced to china before you graduate..

the army is now taking high school dropouts and is recruiting in Mexico, Dominican republic, Puerto rico..etc ...up to the age of 42..!!

4. Good point
Many, many working class kids from large families enlisted in the Natl Guard to fund their advanced education, not fully realizing that they could be called up for near permanent assignment to a foreign war....something that wouldn't have happened ten years ago.

All it took was a blood thirsty madman who felt a need to adopt the military as his personal army to prove himself a man.

Getting an education is key, but is becoming further and further beyond the reach of all but the well off.

This is Geo Buxh's America
Sadly

It was a stupid comment either way imo.

3. I thought that was what my modified version implied too
With the caveat of pointing out that wealthy chickenhawks like Cheney see little need to volunteer.

Maybe now I understand how easy it is to miss the point of a statement.
