Are you surprised AWOL Bush put U.S. troops under Al Sadr's command?
According to CBS radio's Charles Osgood, U.S. troops have been ordered by the Iraqi Prime Minister Maliki , at the request of Al Sadr, to abandon check points that were set up to find a missing U.S. soldier.

Since World War one and Pershing, American leaders have ALWAYS insisted that American troops be under the command of AMERICAN leaders. But under AWOL, that has ended as Al Sadr now commands our troops. Had Bush not gone AWOL, perhaps he would have more respect for American troops than to put them under Al Sadr's command.

1. What the hell does Bush know about the military?
Except, perhaps, how to serve plastic turkeys in a mess tent.

6. Isn't an old gripe of the right-wingers is don't put US troops under UN?
I believe the right-wingers have complained about this for decades in their "Get the US out of the UN" gripe-sessions. Now let's see if they bitch and moan when they learn that Bush has put US troops under Iraqi command, and, in doing so, that Bush turned his back on a missing American soldier.

I'm waiting...

7. Black soldiers from the US Army fought under French command during WWI
The all-black 93rd division, a rag-tag outfit that was initially issued Civil War uniforms, were assigned to French command by General John Pershing during WWI. The French desperately needed fresh troops and Pershing was able to satisfy France's needs by getting rid of his own problem - black soldiers. The 93d Division turned in their American equipment and were issued French rifles, bayonets, helmets, packs, and other equipment of the French soldier. They were then organized, trained, and commanded as a French unit, the first unit in US history to serve under foreign command.

The 93nd division fought as part of the French army, where, ironically, they found acceptance, respect, and glory, eventually winning the Croix de Guerre, only to return to America and find Jim Crow laws alive and well.

During the second world war the 93rd division (Negro) unit patch was the blue Casque Adrien helmet (French Army helmet)
