U.S. Rep. Dave Obey, D-Wis., defends U.S. Sen. John Kerry
Nov 1, 2006 8:08 pm

(AP) CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wis. Wi U.S. Rep. Dave Obey, D-Wis., defended critical remarks U.S. Sen. John Kerry made about President Bush's policy on the Iraq war, saying Kerry "correctly described the buffoonery that accompanied the president's mishaps."

Kerry, a Vietnam War veteran, has incredible respect for the country and the armed forces, Obey said at a Democratic Party rally attended by about 150 people.

"He was talking about the idiocy of the policies pursued by the guy in the big white house," Obey said. "I ask you, when was George Bush right about anything with respect to Iraq, and when was Dick Cheney right about anything?"

Electing enough Democrats to take over majority control of the U.S. House would send Bush a message that his policies are being rejected, Obey said.

"When you go to the polls, remember how this president has run the war," Obey said.

Also attending the rally were Gov. Jim Doyle, 68th Assembly District candidate Mike Turner, 67th Assembly District candidate Roberta Rasmus and 23rd Senate District candidate Pat Kreitlow.

2. well....that makes how many dems who I've heard defend him:
ONE!

he's the ONLY ONE

this is a good thread....how many other dems have stepped up

the ONLY other person I've heard (Hitchens sorta did; maybe A. Sullivan) was tweety, who said it was almost impossible for anyone who listened to the entire comment to NOT understand that Kerry could only have been talking about Bush

I really am having trouble with the current crop of Achordatae Democratae

8. Actually, Sherrod Brown defended him today, as well...
I was grateful to him for doing so--and for re-directing blame for this quagmire back onto its rightful targets--Dub and people like Sen. DeWine! Payback's going to be hell for them in about five days!

B-)

10. that's why I put "I've heard" up there: I couldn't believe that NOBODY
had the nerve to stand behind their standard bearer

it shows just HOW confident Brown is of his election, yes?

18. Good on him.
Now that there are some out in front, maybe more Dems can come out from under the covers and speak the truth about this sorry episode.
When will they learn? There's only one way to deal with thugs.

This might turn out to be Hil's anchor - not Kerry's

So much for party unity and providing political cover against baseless partisan attacks.

3. WooHoo--Them's my people!
I will have the honor of voting for everyone named, except for Roberta, who is a personal friend and to whom I have given $$, but who isn't in my district.

Just a self-indulgent little personal note.

16. If only Harold Ford, Jr. would take some lessons from this guy!
While I'll vote for him, I'm not happy about it. This election has turned into "Get Harold a Job" campaign rather than actually approaching any substantive issues. A lot of Democrats in this state are not too happy that Harold has run so far to the right that he might as well be a Republican in this campaign. When he rushed up to the mics yesterday to condemn Kerry, I was just appalled that he didn't even have the common sense to make the debate about the real issue - and that is Iraq and the whole bungled mess that we are in.

Kudos to Congressman Obey for cutting through the B.S. and tackling the issue for what it is.

19. EXACTLY what every Dem should have done
taken the GOLDEN opportunity that Kerry gave them - by his botched joke...bring the idiot in chief's failed policy front and center

BUT NO - Clinton, Levin, Ford, Obama, Tester and I can't even remember the other IDIOTS

These Dems bought right into or went along with this manufactured repunk Kerry story - and I am so sick and tired of them I could puke.
