Reuters/Zogby - Democrats Lead in Enough Races to Take Senate
November 02, 2006
Democrats Lead in Enough Races to Take Senate

"Democrats are holding at least narrow leads in enough key Republican Senate seats to gain control," a Reuters/Zogby poll shows.

Democrats lead Republican incumbents in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Missouri, Montana, Virginia and Rhode Island, "but only the Rhode Island and Pennsylvania races were outside the polls' margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points."

"To gain a Senate majority, Democrats must hold their own seats and win six of seven at-risk Republican seats, including knocking off at least five Republican incumbents."

God i would love to believe that but for some odd strange reason i feel that again the rug shall be pulled from under us in the last second our spineless leaders will not fight back.

11. Believe it, we're in striking range to gain control of both houses of Congress
We're ahead in enough House seats to be reasonably confident we will acquire a majority. The battle for the Senate is a real heart stopper. But just yesterday we made a comeback in the Real Clear Politics average of the latest polls to give us a lead in enough races to pick up six seats, the minimum we need for a majority there. Be mindful, 5 of these races are categorized as tossups by RCP because they are too close to call.

Election Predictions is painting an identical picture in the Senate, a gain of six for us. They are also showing the new House will be comprised of 225 Democrats and 210 Republicans. Electoral Vote.com projects a 50(D)/49(R) Senate with Missouri being tied, and a 241(D)/193(R) House with one tie.

I am inspired to offer three personal predictions:

  • We'll get a majority in the House. The numbers are just there already.
  • We'll also get a Senate majority. The odds are against us because we'll have to win 4 out of the 5 tossups but the momentum is in our favor.
  • WVU is going to beat Louisville tonight. I'm a big WVU fan. Goooo, Mountaineers!

    2. Makes me feel a little better about my state
Either way our election goes, we are pretty much stuck in the mud with no way out. Sure, Ford is a better candidate - but not by much.

If the rest of this country can pick up the slack, I will be greatly appreciative.

    7. I thought Ford's performance in the last debate
was pretty weak, where as Corker seemed to be in a groove.

    3. .
I hope that Ohio doesn't really get close.

"The race is Tennessee seems out of reach as Bob Corker (R) opened a 10-point lead on Rep. Harold Ford (D-TN) in the race for a Republican open seat in Tennessee."

Uh damn..I hope it's only one poll with such a margin.

    5. Two things important to remember...
Edited on Thu Nov-02-06 08:54 AM by liberalpress
... the rap on us Dems is that we don't vote. Call in sick to work if you have to but GO VOTE!

The second thing to remember is stealing votes is like shaving points... it only works within a narrow window. The more Dem votes there are the less likely they are to be stolen...GET OUT THE VOTE!!!!!!

    Edit:typos

    12. You're not alone in your feeling about Zogby Interactive polls
The sampling is not random because they use a database of individuals who have registered to participate, in response to solicitation from their website and others'. [link:www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2006/senate/tn/tennessee_senate_race-20.html|Real Clear Politics lists polls that are commissioned by the political parties, and Zogby Interactive results. It excludes all of these, however, in their calculations to develop an average of the latest polls.
