REAFFIRMED: House will be 254 Democrats, 180 Republicans
Earlier this month, I made a prediction: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=364&topic_id=2327433

Given the several backfired smear attacks the GOP has launched, Dems now look to take the Senate, 51-49. When I made my earlier prediction, it wasn't looking like we'd even win the Senate.

Assuming no elections are botched or stolen, I believe the Dems will have it 254-180 and 51-49.

Keep the PRESSURE UP! Think POSITIVE! DREAM BIG!

1. I hope you're right
This stupid Maryland Senate race is getting way too close for comfort. We just need Tuesday to get here already.

5. Cardin (D) vs. Steele (R)
Here's today's Baltimore Sun story:

Steele cuts Cardin's lead nearly in half
Democrat holding a 6-point advantage
By Jennifer Skalka
Sun reporter
Originally published November 2, 2006

The race for Maryland's open U.S. Senate seat has narrowed, but Democrat Benjamin L. Cardin holds a 6-point edge, the result of firm support among black voters and strong leads in Baltimore and suburban Washington, according to a new poll for The Sun.

Cardin is ahead of Republican Lt. Gov. Michael S. Steele, 49 percent to 43 percent, with 5 percent of voters undecided less than a week before the election. The Baltimore congressman's lead has been cut nearly in half, however, since a September Sun survey showed him with an 11-point advantage.

Still, Cardin has solidified his backing among African-American voters, a traditionally Democratic constituency that Steele, the state's highest-ranking black official, has vigorously courted.

Steele is doing well with white voters and rural residents. Steele also appears to have benefited from Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr.'s recent gains in Baltimore and Anne Arundel counties, indicating that the Republican incumbent could have coattails.

7. It's close now?
I thought Cardin had a 10 point lead? I can't believe people are falling for that poser Steele.

10. The average from the recent polls is a 5.5% lead for Cardin
That's not enough, he need to be up by at least 10.

9. What else does the media have to talk about
These pollsters are usings samplings of less than 500 respondents. So the margiin of error is sky high.
Its just a tool to try and prop up the GOP

3. With those projected wins we have to think mandate
We need to treat this like Bush treated his shady little "victory" in 2004 - the voice of the people have spoken and they are asking us for change!

6. Big difference, though
If you're a Republican, a 1 vote victory is an impressive mandate. If you have a 10-15 seat margin the House, it means all of America is on your side.

If the Democrats pick up 50 seats in the House and 6 or 7 seats in the Senate, the media will say that because the Democrats didn't pick up 60 seats in the House and 8 in the Senate, it's not really a complete victory.

4. Has anyone checked the Vegas line on the election?
If enough money goes toward Democratic bets maybe the Mob will fix the election for us. B-)

8. It's hard to dream when the machines are already demonstrating being rigged
My "think positive" hat is waiting on my closet shelf, along with my hopeful hat, stored right next to my box of dreams. If we do win, I will take them all out and wear them proudly because it will mean that we can now, truly begin to hope for a change in America including justice for the criminals currently running our country. I will parade around with hope and joy and throw my positive hat in the air with delight- I promise!

But for now, after watching our democracy get stolen before our very eyes since 2000, I'm protecting myself against another deep disappointment on Tuesday. My heart just cannot take another election day disaster.

The only race I know they will probably not bother to rig, is the one with Katherine Harris VS Bill Nelson here in FL. Even the GOP don't want her in the Senate. Otherwise, with the machines already switching votes during this early voting period (in numerous states- not just here in FL), I'll keep my dreams on the back burner for now.

For the rest of you, by all means, dream big. Work hard for your candidates, get everyone out to vote blue and maybe, just maybe, there will indeed be some areas that actually record the votes as the voters intended.

12. Oh man..I so want the Rethugs to have less than 200 seats.
Edited on Thu Nov-02-06 10:06 PM by roamer65
It would be a huge victory and in no time a good chunk of them would join 2/3rd's override majorities.

13. Who does this 51-49 Senate prediction have winning Connecticut?
Edited on Thu Nov-02-06 10:33 PM by American Jesus
I hope to God it's Lamont, because if Holy Joe wins under those conditions, he will remain an "independent", vote with the Repukes and bring in the Cyborg for the tiebreaker vote.

14. HOLY SHIT: Stuart Rothenberg IS ALMOST IN AGREEMENT WITH ME
He's saying 30-40 seat pickup in the House and 51-49 in the Senate for the Dems!

At the upper end that would be 241-190 IN THE HOUSE!!!!!!!!!
