LTTE from local "Reverend" about Michael J Fox & response |
|
snip> Actor's ploy offensive
Several years ago I lived in the Denton area and attended the First Methodist Church. One of the members had advanced Parkinson's, but served his church, was loved by his family and respected by his many friends. I was proud to be one of them.
I saw the display by the actor on television who also has Parkinson's (Michael J. Fox), and was offended by his inept attempt to garner sympathy and "support" for stem cell research as a political ploy.
It was in bad taste at best.
THE REV. JAMES A. ANDREWS
ARRGH I was outraged!!
Sir,
You should be ashamed! How can you call yourself a man of the Lord? You are a hypocrite of the worst sort, resorting to vile attacks upon the diseased hoping to score political points. Your false piety is sad and symptomatic of what is wrong with this Country under the false Christianity pervading th policies of the so called "Religious" Right.
Your icons, Dobson, Falwell, Robertson and their ilk spew hatred and vile daily and men of the cloth such as yourself do nothing to speak the word of truth to them. Sir, Jesus was a liberal, a reading of the book you profess to believe in would convince you of this fact. If he appeared to you this very moment you folks would revile him as a cut and run anti war liberal who cared more about raising taxes to care for the weak and sick than killing, no doubt having him arrested for vagrancy, sent to the State Hospital and forcibly medicated for his mental problems. How very Republican of you! Christian in name, Reverend, not in deed. Cast your stones, Sir.
Disgustedly, acmejack

These so-called "men of God" are often anything but. Jesus would be ashamed of them.

4. I would like to add that |

as far as he is able to make decisions about his own body, his faith is not being intruded upon. But when his faith tells the rest of us what we can and can't do with our own bodies, especially in the name of health, his faith is intrusive.
There are countries where men are allowed to tell women how to dress because of "faith", and execute them if they don't. I don't see where letting someone suffer TO DEATH from an illness because of someone else's faith is much different from countries like Iran and Afghanistan.

despicably willing shills for the Neocons is one of the most disheartening things that's taken place in this country in recent history.
