Got an anti-Democrat phone call in Missouri, is that legal?
My caller ID said "000-000-0000" and a recorded woman's voice started saying that the Democratic candidate was throwing old folks out onto the street, and I hung up.

Then my son asked if that was legal and I didn't know the answer. It was definitely sneaky with all zeroes, and it was a mystery who the caller was, although I'm sure it was some republican deal made by the repub candidate. A cheap recorded smear, bad enough I have to see these adds on my t.v., now I get them on my phone.

1. We have been getting the same thing for weeks here in
Melissa Bean territory in Illinois. They call daily, sometimes twice.

2. There are all sorts of caller ID spoofing methods...
...that can be used to mask where a call is coming from. I am betting that this came through one of those systems. Some old phone systems used to give out info like this...but I have not seen much of this lately. And, usually the ID came across as --000-- and not all 0's like you got. IMO, that had to be intentionally entered because the spoofing systems of which I know only operate when all number spaces are filled by a number. I could be wrong on this, but I was getting bogus calls and I did some research and this a summary of some of what I learned.

It seems to me that if someone is hiding where he/she is calling from, it cannot be good news as far as credibility is concerned. I don't know if it is technically illegal ~~ although I have read that there as of late has been a crack down on internet sites which offer caller ID spoofing. However, it might be some sort of election fraud and it would not hurt to report it to your local election board. Maybe enough complaints would cause someone to look into what is going on.

3. Why would it be illegal?
Unethical for sure, but exactly what law do you think was broken?

4. If you are referring to the MO "no-call" list, it is my understanding
that political parties can still call--also any business that you have dealings with.

Sorry. I just don't answer anything that doesn't come up on caller ID as someone I want to talk with.

6. I got one from 000-000-0000, too.
I just let those go thru to voice mail and then delete them.

Bunch of wackos out there right now. And all of them seem to have my phone number.

7. What should be illegal....
is the attempts to fill my answering machine with this crap. I get so many of those unavailable and 000's could it be a sort of phone jamming attempt ?

Also, I heard that if you hang up on a robo-call, that the computer resets to call you again?

9. Yes, it's legal here in Missouri
The no call list has exceptions for political parties. I've yet to be hit with such a call, but I'm getting sick and tired of coming home to find my mailbox stuffed with Republican trash. The recycle bin is quickly filling up.

So you're a fellow Missourian eh? From where abouts if you don't mind me asking? Always good to see another Missourian on the boards, for a long while I think I was the only one around.
