Has Lincoln Chafee committed his vote yet?
If any Republican opposed Alito, I assumed it would be him.

1. If he does this then the RNc
will not give him a single dime for his re-election campaign this year.

6. Welcome to DU. I think in R.I. he won't need the RNC. A lot of people
would vote for him anyways. He's real popular and a vote against Alito might even help him.

7. He is being challenged by an agressive candidate this time
more agressive than he has ever had before. I don't think this guy can beat him, but he is running as a dem, advertising very heavily and making a name for himself all the same.

If Chaffee does this for us, we have to be there to support him if the RNC dumps his funds. I wish we could just convince him to change partys and solve the problem all together. He needed the RNC when he first ran, but I am not so sure he would need it now.

Collins Announces Decision To Support Alito Confirmation

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Collins says that after consideration, she believes Alito will be a justice who "will exercise his judicial duties guided not by personal views, but based on what the facts, the law, and the Constitution command."

Collins said Alito has excellent qualifications and has received the highest possible recommendation from the American Bar Association.

She also says she's impressed with testimony during his confirmation hearing from seven of his colleagues on the Third U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

Maine's other U-S senator, Olympia Snowe, is still weighing the nomination and has not announced her decision

No Republican has yet come out in opposition to the nominee. But two moderate Republicans, Lincoln Chafee of Rhode Island and Olympia J. Snowe of Maine, had yet to announce their decisions by late this afternoon. Susan M. Collins, another moderate Republican from Maine, said she would vote for Judge Alito.
