President of National Association of Evangelicals...Read This!

President of National Association of Evangelicals accused of 3-year sexual relationship with gay hooker, and of taking drugs
by John in DC - 11/02/2006 11:03:00 AM

UPDATE: This guy is reportedly as important as James Dobson:
The press tends to regard Dobson as the most powerful evangelical Christian in America, but Pastor Ted is at least his equal.
UPDATE: Here is how big this story is.
Christian evangelical leader Ted Haggard... one of the nation's most influential evangelical Christians, whose overstuffed agenda includes a weekly conference call to the White House.
He also claims to have direct access to George Bush:

"We have direct access," says Mr. Haggard, senior pastor of the giant New Life Church in Colorado Springs, Colo. "I can call , he'll take my concern to the president and get back to me in 24 hours."
And he's virulently anti-gay. This guy was on TIME's list of the 25 most influential evangelicals in America. It doesn't get any bigger than this. And he's from Colorado. Wonder what Marilyn Musgrave has to say about this?

Gay hooker says he has voicemails, letter, from evangelical leader
by John in DC - 11/02/2006 01:11:00 PM

From the Rocky Mountain News
Jones also said during his appearance with Boyles that he was paid money by Haggard, who made frequent trips to Denver for sexual liaisons, that he has recorded voicemails and a letter from Haggard, and that he had also witnessed Haggard use methamphetamine.

Jones offered to take a polygraph examination concerning his claim, and Boyles said that will occur Friday during his morning radio show.

This guy is toast, and it's a good thing. He is a complete anti-gay asshole.

2. I'd wait to see if there's any real evidence before saying anything
Remember that gay prostitute who claimed to be having an affair with Tom Cruise? Later on, he admitted he made up the whole thing.

5. If Jones has been talking to Channel 9 for two months don't
you think they have the hard evidence or they would not be going with the story. The Cruise thing was a tabloid story - no evidence needed.

I read that Haggard had a vision while camping and fasting near Pikes Peak. The vision - "a stadium filled with men". Blew my coffee all over the monitor.

7. Hey, those descptions of TH's sacristy that were circulating a few
years ago, during the Air Force Academy religious harassment scandal - - - Everyone I know who read descriptions of some religious statue that was in TH's sanctuary, or chapel, or sacristy or someplace like that said "That's 'Gay'".

8. Love the timing of this......how many evangelicals will have an epiphany?
Their leadership are literally in bed with the people who they despise the most. They've been conned by the DC Republicans and their faux religious counterparts. This won't help the GOP GOTV. Could be a nuclear bomb on the Republican Party. Timing is everything in politics.

It's the hypocrisy you Republican voting stupits and you've been used and abused!

9. Is there a drug test for meth?
Maybe Pastor Ted should take one, just to prove he's not a meth user...

14. from the comments
Harper's had a feature story about Haggard's New Life Church last year. Here's part of what it tells us about how Pastor Ted spent his time in Colorado Springs in the mid-80's:

"He was always on the lookout for spies. At the time, Colorado Springs was a small city split between the Air Force and the New Age, and the latter, Pastor Ted believed, worked for the devil. Pastor Ted soon began upsetting the devil's plans. He staked out gay bars, inviting men to come to his church; his whole congregation pitched itself into invisible battles with demonic forces, sometimes in front of public buildings."

At the time "his church" was in the basement of his house. I'm sure at least some of them spent a good bit of time on their knees in worship.
