I just came from a town hall meeting on Alito (the only meeting in Maine at which we could express our views on Alito) at which Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins were supposed to speak or be represented by staff. Snowe sent a staff person to hear us out, but Collins was not represented! Certainly makes a statement about where Collins stands!
There was much emotion. People made passionate pleas to Snowe's rep for a no vote and support for the filibuster. Snowe's staff person said Olympia has not made up her mind yet.
We need to bombard Collins' office and let her know that this is not acceptable (1-202-224-2523). Its also critical to call, e-mail, fax Snowe (1-800-432-1599).

1. According to the NYT Collins is going to vote for Alito. |

But two moderate Republicans, Lincoln Chafee of Rhode Island and Olympia J. Snowe of Maine, had yet to announce their decisions by late this afternoon. Susan M. Collins, another moderate Republican from Maine, said she would vote for Judge Alito. snip

I mean strange funny, that these so called moderates don't shift from their party on crucial votes yet our 'moderates' have no fear of consequences. We have dems that rarely vote with us like Ben Nelson and Mary Landrieu. We permit it since they represent red states but it only works one way. There has to be consequences for these dems who never vote with us.
