The analogy isn't perfect of course, but the hatred and loss of perspective is eerily similar. I think KO's use of this incident to draw a parallel is spot on.

I really think too many elements of the political right have convinced themselves to dehumanize fellow American citizens. Dehumanization is the critical necessary step to enable physical violence. I find this trend alarming to say the least. People do look to our "leaders" as behavioral examples. This has implications that are troubling for this liberal. When is it going to be okay to hit me over the head with a bat because I'm pro-choice, pro-peace, pro-gay marriage, and support stem cell research?
