Do you live in an apartment? |
|
Election Day is November 7, 2006. This is what some of us can do before then to encourage voting.
If you live in an apartment building with a majority of Democrats, then you can slip fliers under the resident's doors with polling place information.
STEP 1: Find out the polling place and hours from your state's Secretary of State website.
STEP 2: Enter the address of your building and the polling place at Yahoo! maps to get driving directions.
STEP 3: Print fliers on your computer which say "RESIDENTS OF (your building) VOTE ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 7, 2006 AT (the hours and address and driving directions.)"
STEP 4: Slip the fliers under people's doors.
Extra:
You can write on the bottom of the flier, "This document was produced by an individual. It isn't from building management. It isn't from any government agency, campaign, etc. For more information, visit the website of the Secretary of State at (the website address.)"
If you live in a state with Election Day registration, then you can note in the flier that people don't have to be previously registered.
If you know that more than one precinct votes at your polling location, then you can include your precinct number. That will be at your state's Secretary of State website.
Making the flier non-partisan should avoid being offensive to your neighbors.
Only do this if allowed by the rules of your building.

Hud subsidized at that. Another fellow and i have distributed leaflets all around, went door to door registering, and on election day we will be using a van to take anyone who wants to vote to the polls.

What type of leaflets? Did you slip them under the door if no one answered?

Lists i got from the Dem Hq with info on each candidate up for election, registration forms etc. I even paid for stamps to make sure folks could just mail them in lol! As for if no one was home? Well since i live here i just kept going back till i got a hold of them. It's not a huge place, just about 75 units or so.
I did not do as much last go around. But goddammit if i was gonna lose again so i doubled my efforts. Also last time in the effort of fairness :eyes: i tried a more non partisan approach. Not this go around Ha! I went full tilt Dem recruiting lol!
Lots of people have been hard at work here. Man i tell ya Dem signs out number pukes 4 to 1! A complete reverse from last time in '04.
While i do no official party work i would like to thank all those who are and put in so much work to make my red home blue!

11. I did not, but it's a very Democratic demographic. |
|
Like i said it's HUD subsidized housing, everyone who lives here is poor and on assistance, and largely minority. In other words very largely Democratic leaning like 90-95%. Thats why i put so much effort here, it's a small goldmine if you can get them to go and vote. I just did what i could to make it easy for them.

14. No, last time i just took the more non partisan approach, |
|
Of just trying to get people to vote period. I put no party pressure one way or the other. I just felt getting people to vote would be enough. A bit naive i know, but last go around i honestly thought that people were ready for change, and if you could just get them to vote most would make the right choice for themselves. I took no chances this time. I used all Dem pressure, and specified my work to what would already be a Democratic demographic.
Also last time 'round i did not live in an urban area. I was still stuck out in the hills, and i used my job delivering papers to hand out literature, and registration forms etc. I also felt, and still do feel i am a dangerous detriment working for the party. I raise fewer eyebrows here than the hills.

last time no. thought it would be enough just to get people there too vote. I figured in 04' people wanted change, and if more people went to vote the better for our side, Sadly it didn't work out like i planned.

Issues like Social Security, Medicare, etc play very well here. Not to mention the economy. There are people living here in subsidized housing due to outsourcing. This was once a great wealthy area with loads of factories. Not anymore, less than 1/2 the jobs etc. Also the war plays good. Many have a relative in service they worry about. Ah another big one is most former felons don't realize they can vote when done with their sentence. I picked up about 15 on that premise alone.
As i said prior, in this complex getting the Dem vote is like shooting fish in a barrel. It's getting them to go vote that the problem. Many have no way, or are sick. And many don't even realize they can vote i.e. the ex-cons/former felons.

I would love to do such a thing but don't actually live in the States. I emailed this around to my friends living there and have asked them to do this.
Keep it up! Stay positive!
