Ed Shultz talking about 800 election "monitors" from Justice Dept..
Anyone seen any info on this? I haven't heard it from any other source. I searched DU with no results.

Ed said that there will be 800 Justice Dept elections monitors dispatched to 35 cities to oversee the elections.

Gonzo trying to influence our elections?

Justice Department Preparing for Election ProblemsHotline and Observers Being Put in Place

Nov. 1, 2006 — On Election Day, the Justice Department plans to dispatch about 800 election observers and monitors to look for voting problems and fraud.

Wan Kim, the assistant attorney general for civil rights, said Tuesday, "We have dispatched a record number, unprecedented numbers of federal observers and monitors to the polls over the past six years, and that commitment will continue on Tuesday."

About 550 observers — career government officials picked and trained from the Office of Personal Management — will be dispatched to 20 states and to precincts that make those counties eligible under the 1965 Voting Rights Act.

The remaining 250 monitors are department personnel who will go where the Justice Department suspects there may be some voter problems

5. Heard from a friend in Ohio (he's a Repuke operative)
(don't want to reveal who he is)

He says the Rethugs have organized groups in ALL 88 counties to challenge voters AT THE POLLS. Their goal is to slow the process to a crawl to minimize the vote. This is from someone who KNOWS WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT. He is a well-placed R and does NOT approve of the idea. He is a Goldwater R, not one of these evil bastards.

OHIO, be on the look out!!!

17. here is the info and link to opednews election site
Subject: A system for coordinating reports of vote improprieties

OpEdNews has set up a system to help coordinate all reports of vote theft, tampering, manipulation, voter registration purging, etc. Our goal is to help coordinate and enable anyone who has a report, who has a video, to place them all in one central, easily accessible location.

We are set up so people can easiliy register to submit written or video reports as diaries which can be assigned to multiple pages-- by state, county, voting district and subject categories.

We currently have pages for every state and can easily add counties or voting districts.

People can upload their video to youtube, then link to it on OpEdNews, putting it on a state page. We will also use a standard subject tag (or several, if you deem appropriate) like
2006 vote report all
2006 vote report theft electronic
2006 vote report theft long lines
2006 vote report theft voter registration purge
2006 vote report theft misc.

People would siimply sign up as members and submit their reports, videos, photos. We're pretty much set up and ready to go on this-- just need to finalize the subjects.
We have all the states set up and can easily add counties, voting districts and metro areas as requested.
We're willing to modify this "first pass" on the idea as experts and activists suggest.
Suggestions invited.

14. Why are you saying NOT to report to the DNC hotline?
I think that is working against the Democratic party. Don't you? I suggest they must have reports for accuracy.

I am shocked you said this.

JUSTICE DEPARTMENT TO MONITOR ELECTION IN CALIFORNIA

WASHINGTON, DC - The Justice Department today announced that it will send federal observers and Civil Rights Division personnel to monitor the November 16 special city council vacancy election in San Diego, California to ensure compliance with the Voting Rights Act.

Under the Voting Rights Act, which protects the rights of Americans to participate in the electoral process without discrimination, the Justice Department is authorized to ask the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) to send federal observers to areas that are specially covered in the Act itself or by a federal court order. Federal observers will be assigned to monitor polling place activities in San Diego pursuant to a federal court order entered on July 7, 2004.

The observers will watch and record activities during voting hours at polling locations in the city. Civil Rights Division personnel will coordinate the federal activities and maintain contact with local election officials.

On June 23, 2004, San Diego County entered into a settlement agreement with the Justice Department designed to protect the voting rights of minority language voters. Under the agreement, the county must provide voting materials such as voting notices, forms, instructions, assistance, or other materials and ballots in Spanish, Tagalog and Vietnamese. The observers will gather information concerning compliance with the agreement and other issues affecting minority-language voters.

Each year, the Department of Justice deploys hundreds of observers and attorneys to monitor elections across the country. In 2002, the Department coordinated and sent 608 federal observers and 221 Department personnel to 40 counties in 17 states to monitor 60 elections and ensure access to the polls. In 2003, the Department coordinated and sent 380 federal observers and 136 Department personnel to monitor 42 elections in 26 political subdivisions in 14 states. Including the November 16 election, the Department has coordinated and sent 1,411 federal observers and 527 Department personnel to monitor 162 elections in 105 counties in 29 states during 2004.

To file complaints about discriminatory voting practices, including acts of harassment or intimidation, voters may call the Voting Section of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division at 1-800-253-3931.

More information about the Voting Rights Act and other federal voting laws is available on the Department of Justice website at www.usdoj.gov/crt/voting/index.
