Fourth and long
Edited on Thu Jan-26-06 11:13 PM by bigwillq
I'm so sick of playing chess.
It's time to play football. Hardcore, knock them out, drag-out fight football.

It's fourth and long, folks.
Which is why I support a filibuster.

I'm sick and tired of politics being a chess game. Having our senators and representatives voting on issues based purely on what they benefit from it. Pushing bills through or nominees through so they can have it on their record and maybe look "good" when they run in '06, or '08 or '12.

I respect and applaud Sen. Kerry and Sen. Kennedy for being our Vince Lombardi and Bear Bryant. I respect and applaud those DEM senators who will oppose Alito.

I respect and applaud everyone who is at least trying to fight for our rights. It doesn't hurt to sign these on-line petitions and it doesn't hurt to call our senators to express our views. For many of us, that's all we can do.

You can "watch" a feed on CNN that's titled "a political risk for Kerry"
To that I call bullshit.
It's an American risk not to fight against a nominee who will likely turn back the clock of progress.

We may not win the championship this time but at least I know there's some of us out there willing to leave our heart and conscience on the field.

It's fourth and long, folks. We don't have the time to punt.

1. I agree, but
can't we ever have an analogy that isn't based on sports?

Just kidding! I agree with your passionate post!

the best games are the ones that the kids play their hearts out, no matter what the score. It makes me so proud, when I see these boys (sorry, 99.8% of them are) that know the season is over - they missed the playoffs - come to the sidelines in a game against an opponent that is killing them, and ask the coach to call a trick play.

They know they won't win. They know that even if they perform a miracle and DO win, that they will not make the playoffs. But they never stop fighting. Because they love their team, they love the sport, and they never lose their competitive spirit.

One good leader can make a team that gives you chills with their heart. That leader moves them all to make their opponent earn EVERY yard. They carry their team pride like a badge.

The mantle is there - when someone picks it up - we are all ready to follow their heart and courage - to fight the battle because it deserves to be fought, not because we know we will win.

So I'll keep fighting on this one as long as they keep leading. Because I have a lot of pride in this team for fighting because we need to, not because we are assured a great victory.

Hail Mary pass!

Go long, and we'll see if we can win it!

12. I'd modify that, fourth and goal
it's a tough spot, but there is a payoff in the immediate future. No, this TD wouldn't put us in the lead, but it'll defintiely swing the momentum!
