Good News! Neil Patrick Harris is _ _ _!
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,227498,00.html
LOS ANGELES — Neil Patrick Harris is gay and wants to quell any rumors to the contrary.

"(I) am quite proud to say that I am a very content gay man living my life to the fullest," Harris tells People magazine's Web site.

The 33-year-old actor said he was motivated to disclose his sexuality because of recent "speculation and interest in my private life and relationships."

1. And 30 million gay men cry, "Prove it!".
Kudos to Neil. I could give a rats ass what he does
off-camera, but he's a real GEM in "How I Met Your Mother".
Best character in the show! (forgive me Alyson!)

2. Sorry, but who cares?
I can't imagine why anyone ever should talk about their sexuality. You might just as well say "Good News! Neil Patrick Harris has blue eyes and want to quell any rumors to the contrary" At least that is the way we "should" look at people. What someones sexuality is shouldn't be a big whoop.

4. He decided to come out because there was speculation out there
Edited on Sat Nov-04-06 01:03 AM by cat_girl25
that was about to be exposed. Other than that, you're right. No one really cares except maybe some women out there looking to date or marry him.

5. You can't imagine why anyone should talk about their sexuality?
Try being a gay man who has to constantly hear about a straight man's wife and kids, while fearing disclosing he has a "partner".

Try being a gay man who has to hide their sexual identity in the military because his colleagues are talking about all the chicks they fucked this pass weekend.

I agree, sexual identity shouldn't "be a big whoop". But it is. So as we continue to creep out of the closet, take a moment to embrace the courage it takes to do as much. And don't denigrate a person's courage to not only recognize their sexuality after years of denial, but then be able to utter the words.

In this world, it's easy to be straight, but until we make it easy to be gay, let's just be a bit more kind when a gay person finds the strength to openly declare their sexual identity.

26.  I just think that if being gay is going to be accepted ordinary it has to be
treated as"ordinary" And I don't mean "if' but I don't know how to word this. What I am trying to say is if we keep making someone's declaration of their sexuality an "event" it isn't looked at as ordinary.Remember the scene in"Coming Out" where everyone in the auditorium, the whole town stands up in support of the Kevin Kline character and says they are "gay". That is the kind of feeling that ought to be encouraged.I know it may sound naieve but I hope for the day sexuality is no different than eye color.Actually I do believe that everyone is a little bit straight and a little bit gay.I think we contain everything within ourselves to varyinbg degrees but whatever.Peace.I see your point. And maybe Harris is taking a step forward to make things more "ordinary".

7. In a perfect world what you say would be true
but the world is far from perfect. Gays had been making inroads for years, things were starting to turn around for them. When Bush took office all that changed, any hopes they had for equal rights were dashed. Many homophobic people are only that way because all they know is the stereotype that's programmed into them. Sometimes all it takes to "normalize' being gay for them is to know someone who is. Any celebrity willing to come out and set an example in the current social and political enviroment is pretty ballsy in my opinion, and my hat's off to Doogie for standing up. :toast:

People still don't realize that "coming out" is still a political and a personal statement.

Thank you, buddy.

when he was in the Madonna/Rupert Everett movie "The Next Best Thing". When we saw it we knew Doogie had come out.

9. I Fail To See Why This Is Good News, Or Any News For That Matter.
I mean, is it bad news that I'm not gay? Wouldn't it be a horrible thing to say the opposite of what you just had? Could you imagine a thread stating "Good news! So and so isn't gay!".

To each their own. This isn't good news, bad news or any news in my opinion.

10. The good news is because he came out and won't be in hiding anymore.
Other than that I didn't really say what the good news was. I only posted a link. I tend to get picked on by calling individuals gay around here.

You have me confused with Erika. She was the one that thought it was abnormal of the two chicks kissing. I told her it was no big deal.

I'm cool! :hi:

Here's a link to someone who was outing Doogie weeks ago.

12. No, it's not bad news that you're not gay.
Edited on Sat Nov-04-06 01:29 AM by JackBeck
But the fact that you're straight is always good news.

And has been for quite some time. Which is why it's not headline news that you are straight.

Because being straight is not a bad thing. Nor was it ever illegal in the United States to be straight. Nor were you ever burned at the stake for being straight. Nor rounded up during the Holocaust and branded with a pink triangle for being straight.

I think it was Dr. Will! Wasn't it? He had a total infatuation with NPH, maybe it was the Doogie Howser thing?

So, was Dr. Will gay too? Hmmmmmmm

27. Good for him!
I'm glad that it's becoming more usual to come out of the closet even as a celebrity, as evidenced by Mr. Harris and T.J. Knight, but I don't like that they might feel forced to do so because of speculation and rumors.

It seems that the gossip mongers are digging into people's sexuality, but is the interest caused by a belief that it's something salacious, akin to digging for booze bottles in the trash of a suspected alcohoic star, or simply because it's something these celebrities have kept secret, and the gossipers want to know every little thing about them? I don't know, but according to Ted Casablanca of gossip fame, apparently more gay stars are contemplating coming out and living their lives in the open.

29. Its the hypocrisy
I think the gossips are interested in "uncovering" those that make a big show of their straightness.

The romantic lead, action hero types can't be perceived as less than totally masculine, or they may not get work. The "public" may have a hard time accepting a gay man in a romantic movie with a woman.

Their sexuality matters because the "public" cares.

He was so cute in Doogie Howser and he is a fairly gifted comedian. I am glad he is happy. I see on the link Wentworth Miller is supposedly gay. Now that would be great news. Talk about a hot fantasy.

That's what's important.:)

The cute kid that was on "Silver Spoons" appears to be a conservative. I've seen him on Bill Maher.
