Haggard Haggard Haggard bull
Here we go again , you know what , I never heard of this fellow before today and personally I could care less .

If he did what is in the headlines then he is nothing more than another dropped turd from a backed up system , if he did not then he is still someone I would not like to know .

1. Thank you for your concern.
I'm sorry that exposing hypocrisy means nothing to you.

2. I care.
He's a leader of 30MM evangelicals. This is going to have a very depressing effect for the key Republican demographic. I suspect that Foley-Haggard are having a lot of these Republicans experiencing a crisis of faith. I see this as an extremely de-energizing event in this campaign. With any luck, this will begin to seriously fracture a monolythic voting block that the RNC has shamelessly exploited for many, many years. They may not realize it, but it's a good thing for them as well as us.

3. You mean "couldn't care less", no?
Saying you COULD care less means that you do, in fact, care.

4. We all care about exposing hyprocrisy - or we should

This monster worked against his own people, his own community, hiding behind a lie. Granted,
that kind of background suggests he'll fit in quite well with the Reptilicans, however.

5. He leads 30 million fundies, who seek to destroy this country. He is the
pResident's spiritual advisor. He is a flaming HYPOCRITE and an illegal drug user, to boot. His influence on Bush is substantial.

And you don't care?

A belated welcome to DU. You enjoy your stay, now.

6. For those people of faith who unquestioningly follow the....

teachings of this man, I say Thank you Lord. If you are a true believer (as they claim to be), then you have to realize what's actually going on here. I believe that this is payback for using the "Lord" in the public square for political gain. They're being exposed as hypocrites for all the world to see, and I say it's high time.

People like Haggard, Dobson & Phelps have made their hatred for gay people the cornerstone of their mega-ministries; raking in millions at the expense of good people who have done them no harm.

In Haggard's case, the very hatred he espoused to his 30 mil followers may now be directed toward him. I want to see how he handles falling from such a high perch. I want to see how he handles being shunned & despised by the very people he taught to hate. I want to see his reaction the first time he calls the White House, and they no longer take his calls.

As big an asshole as he is, I hope he recieves more empathy than he preached. As for me, I'm glad he was exposed because people of faith have been used long enough.

7. He built a congregation of 14,000 people
and became the leader of 30 million under the National Association of Evangelists.

He was an advisor to Bush on Evangelicals. He admitted obtaining meth, that is illegal.

9. why does this stuff blow out of nowhere ?
From what I gather this has been going on for 3 years and NO ONE KNEW !

Look , what pisses me off is this just like many other just releasted issues just surface now , suddenly before the elections . Now you can look at this two ways , 1 - it is meant to be used to distract or 2 - it was brought out by someone for some unknown reason and what this reason is , Please tell me .

All this scandle seems strange that suddenly it comes to the surface , now if the results bring forth a good thing then I am all for it .

It reminds me of the still in use black box machines , suddenly here we are again after 2002 when they were first used , it's 4 years later and what has been done to stop this .

Does it not bother anyone that all of this is always just below the surface and survives unhampered then when it's too late to do much about it here it is to deal with again . I knew the machines would still be here , all of us did . Brad from Brad blog said this just yesterday .

People are so quick to boil over on issues of scandle but when it comes down to issues that REALLY affect our votes much more than Haggard will do it just goes un-noticed and we deal with this all over again .

This is why Haggard to me seems like another breaking distraction , as you say it will expose something but what will it change come nov 7th that you can count on and how many days will it be before this story is complelely out of the headlines and we are onto yet another topic with 1,000 posts ?

You do see how Foley is now pushed way back and perhaps this is just part of a mass exposure and it has to be pushed back for more to follow , just don't forget the memory hole where many issues vanish when everyone is on full tilt over load .

10. I guess there still ARE tin foil hats after all.
You've got an enormously powerful guy with close ties to Bush, now accused of using drugs and gay prostitutes --- and you think that's a DISTRACTION?

All it does is hurt the GOP.
