"Capitol Steps" was here in New Haven. My brief review.
While there were some bright, funny spots in the one night performance at our famed Shubert Theater, they were not as funny as I recall 6 years ago, when their material was fresh, very timely and much more energetic.

Some of their material was just plain old. One spot was of Teddy Kennedy lamenting his son's DUI (how long ago was that?). They also obviously updated a skit of Kerry and Bush debating and made it a joke contest, which realy didn't work, except that the guy portraying Kerry was very funny. The Bush character had a so-so vocal imitation and some good schtick with his body but I kept wishing for Jim Ward of Stephanie Miller's show!

A nice highlight is the monologue on Mark Foley where words are twisted (Fark Moley)and the result is very funny, altho the one they did 6 years ago (about Monica Lewinsky) was a lot funnier.

There were some deadly dull segments (politics explained to children that could have been funny but wasn't). Some skits had only 1 or 2 really big laughs (3 Kurds singing to Gilbert & Sullivan with their "three little Kurds are we" and doing a dainty little dance. Ditto the "Staying Alive" skit with the oldest Democrats on the Supreme Court.

All in all, a B minus or a C plus. They've been better...
