I read this on an Anti-Bush website that went black in December 2000
from The Rush Limbaugh Award for Excellence in Conservative Hypocrisy

HAIL TO THE THIEF!

12/10/00- The Day Democracy Died.

Well, the GOP topped themselves this time.

Just when you thought they couldn't get any more outrageous... the party led by a man who ran on the ideas of more local government and trusting people over Washington has "won" the election by getting votes dismissed in the Supreme Court.

Is this even America anymore? If this were to happen in some small country in Africa or Central America, we'd be screaming about corruption and sending in Jimmy Carter to supervise the election. ...

Some of the site's concerns about Bush, like his record and views on the death penalty, seem downright quaint. I knew I wouldn't like Bush being in office. I had no idea how bad it would get: Iraq, New Orleans, secret prisons, lies in the State of the Union Address, rigged votes, Abu Ghraib, al-Qaeda ignored, Democrats called traitors, censorship, corruption, Halliburton, tax cuts to billionaires, runaway deficits financed by Chinese banks. In just 6 yeas, so much damage.

The worst of it is how much we as a people don't trust each other any more. I had no idea how far the voters could be misdirected by the fabrications and divisiveness Bush and his cronies spill out everytime they open up their lie holes. We have fallen so far. We have so much to rebuild.

1. He is a nightmare

I knew he was bad news all during the election, but I never imagined he could be this bad.

Wake me when it's over!

3. RimJob and many other FReepers were very anti-Bush
For example:

and this:

Free-for-all at Free Republic

July 13, 1999 | WASHINGTON -- Last year, when the sound and fury of the anti-Clinton movement was cresting with every White House revelation, no group reveled more gleefully in the president's troubles than the habitues of Free Republic, a raucous conservative Web site where Clinton bashers vied to top each others' harangues and posted press clips bolstering their views.

The top extremist, in the estimate of the disenchanted, is its founder, Robinson, a wheelchair-bound Navy veteran of the Vietnam War who operates the site with his son and an unpaid helper from his home in Fresno, Calif. When Robinson unleashed a windy jeremiad linking Texas Gov. Bush with alleged CIA-connected drug-running under his father, a former CIA director (1975-77), vice president (1981-89) and president of the United States (1989-93), all cyber-hell broke loose.

Untold thousands of conservatives, desperate for the front-running Republican "Dubya" to oust the Democrats from the White House, left, leaving the playing field to the loons. Sources with access to Free Republic's traffic data say visitors and page views are down by at least half from their peak a year ago.

There's lots more out there...

6. I remember back after the 2000 election...
I felt about the same way. I knew it would be bad.
After the first couple of years I remember saying, "I knew it would be bad... but not THIS bad..."
And every year since then it's managed to get worse.

8. I wish I could go back to being "only" as depressed as I was when he won.
I guess being a natural optimist, I couldn't possible imagine the destruction to our democracy and the political discourse of the country that his administration would bring.

As an aside, I think that would make for a very interesting poll. I'm curious how many independents and Republicans who voted for Bush, if given it all to do over again knowing what they know now, would choose Gore on the ballot.
