Why No Filibuster? A Possible Explanation
Edited on Fri Jan-27-06 11:41 AM by GrpCaptMandrake
With the assertion from Buzzflash that Barack Obama is arguing against a filibuster, http://www.buzzflash.com/analysis/06/01/ana06006.html, it is clear to me that there yet remains a hard, cancerous little knot in our party that wants power-at-a-later-date worse than they want to do the right thing now.

Yesterday, Mary Landrieu echoed the words referenced in the Buzzflash article, saying Congress "has too much work to do" for a filibuster at this time.

What, you might wonder, is the hard work that minority dems can do in a senate ruled by iron-fisted Republican ideologues?

Take a minute.

Got it yet?

Here's a hint: February 3.

That's the due date for consideration of the Patriot Act in the Senate.

Once again, senate Democrats are operating out of their Persistent Terrorized State.

Still harboring the "magical thinking" (anyone with experience in substance abuse treatment will recognize the term), the "moderate," "centrist" Democrats have convinced themselves that if they can just go-along and get-along a little while longer, power will miraculously fall into their laps in November.

And central to that misguided theory is the notion that if ANYTHING gets in the way of the re-authorization of the Patriot Act, Karl Rove will call us dems commie pinko sissiy terrorist sympathizers and make us cry and keep the moderate centrists from rising like cream to the top of the slop bucket in November.

The problem is, as it is with most impaired persons, their "moderate" "centrist" thinking is exactly the opposite of what reality is.

See how easy that was?
