Hillary Will Support Filibuster >>>
Edited on Fri Jan-27-06 11:42 AM by Stephanie
Edited - sorry - there has been an update:

_____________________

Update 11:22 a.m. Senator Clinton's office now says she WILL support the filibuster.

We need to stop George Bush from getting 60 Senators to end the filibuster on Monday at 4:30 p.m.

That means we must convince 41 Senators to either support a filibuster or stay away from the Senate on Monday, preferably by visiting maimed soldiers at Walter Reed Hospital.

Below is a list of 44 Democrats, 1 Independent, and 3 Republicans whose support is possible - the "Alito 48."

We will keep a tally below, relying on you to report back on your calls.

6. My thoughts on Hillary: Hillary is running for president and if Kerry
gets the filibuster, he might come out as the peoples choice..

9. she bloody better - better late than never - why wasn't she leading the
charge? Hillary could do more for the Country by helping unseat the Repukes and be the best NY Senator she can possibly be. He influence in the Senate could be invaluable for our soldiers and health care, etc.

But, IMHO, not as presidential material. Too much baggage to be a positive addition. We don't need another squeaker. A distinct, major win will require positive forward looking programs and encouragement, not answering charges of propaganda, deceit and evil from the repukes the entire campaign time.

13. I'm not going to complain about her actions on this front.
On other fronts, yes. But she's doing the right thing here, and she ought to be encouraged to keep doing more.

(And chastised for doing less on Iraq, for example.)

10. why can't DU just celebrate that she is going to support the filibuster?
This pervasive attitude about Hillary here at DU is reminiscent of how the press treated Gore during the 2000 election. About Gore it was written: "If Gore walked on water, people would deride him for not being able to swim."

Deja vu? And from within the party to boot. Nice.

You don't have to support her possible candidacy to be reasonable and fair.

11. That is cool - asking those who can't vote against to be gone
preferably by visiting maimed soldiers at Walter Reed Hospital.

19. Make the phone call, please....
e-mail from democrats.com...

"I just spoke with Senator Clinton's New York City office and confirmed that
Senator Clinton is NOT supporting the brave and urgent filibuster of Sam Alito
by Senators John Kerry and Ted Kennedy.

Please call these numbers immediately and urge Senator Clinton to SUPPORT THE
ALITO FILIBUSTER:

Senator Clinton NYC Office: 212-688-6262
Friends of Hillary NYC Office: 212-213-3717
Senator Clinton DC Office: 202-224-4451
Friends of Hillary DC Office: 202-263-0180

Please be polite but firm.

If you know any prominent supporters of Senator Clinton, please ask them to call
Senator Clinton or her closest advisors directly.

For the latest updates visit:
http://democrats.com/alito-48"

I called her NY office, busy. Called the Friends of Hillary NYC Office: 212-213-3717 and a woman told me Clinton would support tihe filibuster specifically ("can't right now because she is not on the ground") so we need to keep the pressure on.

If what I was told is correct, I'm encouraged.. because it means the pressure we are putting on is having some effect.
