Call Republicans for money! |
|
Ok, so our candidate has run out of money.
We're calling all the Dem donors, and they're all tapped out, too.
So...in a fit of madness or inspiration, we decided to start calling Republicans in rich neighborhoods and those from prominent GOP families.
Guess what?
Third call struck paydirt; a Rep who had already marked his ballot, but hadn't turned it in. After learning the truth about the guy he voted for, he said he would not only ask for a new ballot, but make a donation to our candidate!
I won't mention his last name, but it's a household word.
Dems, those fed-up Republicans are potential gold mines just waiting to be called!

5. We have gone into the lion's den in this campaign. |
|
Our district has almost a 2 to 1 Republican registration, though there are also 19% who decline to state party affiliation. So...we have to preach beyond the choir.
Our "thinking outside the box" has include airing ads on a country music station and robocalling Republicans with a call pledging to protect them against wildfires (in a district that was heavily burned). We've also gotten articles into conservative newspapers pointing out how our GOP legislator voted against helping fire survivors, then lied to cover up his record.
We created special door hangers that say "Know what you're really voting for!" We're hanging it on Republican and independent doors. It includes a side by side comparison of the candidates' stances on issues -- including some really abhorrent votes by our opponent. (ie, claims "family values" but voted against the "Healthy Kids" initiative; calls himself an "avid conservationist" but has a 0% rating from the League of Conservation Voters, says he opposes taxes, but voted for "corporate welfare" to help big oil companies; took money from the banking industry and voted against stopping predatory lending & prevention of identity theft.)
I'd say 80-90% of those who read that say they'll vote for our Democratic candidate.

Parts of it are 85% repub. But they are seriously disillusioned. I'll pass this on tomorrow at the headquarters.

12. See my note below about daring into the fundie mega-churches today... |

and converting the faithful!
Most had never met a Democratic candidate before...and amazingly they don't crucify Dems who dare to show up.

They've been waiting for years for us to finally call them - maybe we just needed to ask all these years?

8. Postively brilliant! Spread the word to other groups, too. |
|
Something like 25% of Repubs are good, decent folks who are fed up, too, just waiting to be asked. They want their country back, too. Good thinkin'!!!

14. We've gotta be smarter than the average bear, er...elephant. |

I have a new strategy: just took out an email address: republicansforchange@yahoo.com.
We're looking for a disgruntled Republicans who would sign a letter to fellow fed-up Republicans, urging them to send a message to their leadership that it's time for a change: By voting for Democrats, or minor party candidates, or leaving partisan offices blank on their ballots.
If anyone knows a REP or ex-REP in the 36th CA State Senate district who would like to sign the letter, please pm me or send an email to the address above. ;-)

11. Today our candidate went to 2 fundamentalist megachurches. |
|
He met several thousand Christian voters and was allowed to pass out campaign literature after the service, as were several Republican candidates for other offices who were present. (None were allowed to speak, but all were introduced to the congregation.)
Amazingly, he got more cheers and applause than the most well known Republican present at one church! (A former teacher of the year locally, it turned out he had many ex-students and fellow teachers among the parishioners.)
Score one for the side of goodness and light!
