At its core, "political correctness" is simply common courtesy. I don't see why people (mostly the "South Park conservatives") have such a problem with it.

The M$M and "Christian" Right took the most extreme examples of the "language police" and used them as a club to make feminists and universities into a boogeyman that would take away our freedom to harass people in public. Notice how people who use inclusive language are portrayed in the M$M. They're almost always shown to be the stereotypical moonbat hippie. In contrast, people who insult women, gays, or the disabled are portrayed as normal stand-up guys.

They're not promoting PC at all, even when they're ostensibly doing so. They're subtly undermining the very idea of neutral language so they can continue to air sexist beer commercials, gay stereotypes, and movies about comical "retards" and make more money.

3. PC like anything else has a "bad side"

Ok, let me first say that I think PC means, like others in here, a general respect for people. Respect for who they are, what they do and even what they think, even if you may disagree.

But that cannot be legislated in one to one interactions or out in the "real world". We can set up laws protecting people in the workplace and hold public institutions to a code of behavior (as in sexist, racist, homophobic speech) but we cannot legislate that among the masses.

Forcing people to be PC in the interpersonal areas is not only impossible it is wrong. Making people BE nice without a real inner change on a person's part is totally inauthentic. WE hope for that inner change to occur and it may never happen, but forcing people to always be nice is phony. I would rather people be real and then we can DEAL with that, instead of a facade.
