Brent Budowsky -- December Surprise: Bush Plans Post-Election Call Up Of National Guard And Reserves

American commanders in Iraq have privately
told the President that additional troops will be needed in Iraq to maintain the current policy.

Plans are secretly underway for a suprise new call up of National Guard and Reserves to be announced sometime after the election.

The Washington Post has now reported that plamning that is now classified, being kept secret from voters and military families until the election is over, could well include what the Post calls a policy change forcing a new wave of involuntary call ups.

With violence and chaos escalating in Iraq, with Iraqi police infiltrated by murderous pro-Iranian militia, with more than 20% of the Iraqi army on leave at any given time, the fact is: American troops are doing even more of the work that Iraqis should do and more will be sent to Iraq unless the policy changes.

1. I think that's when we'll see a draft. Or at least an attempt.

9. Do you really think they'd do a draft ahead of
calling back all vets currently on IRR?

2. life near an army base
I live near (at the end of the runway of) a very large army base and it is well known that a large number of troops are about to head out in the coming weeks or months. The practicing has stopped this past week and the guys that usually are in high spirits have begun to get their affairs in order as they normally do prior to a deployment.

As a side note,
What do you you think about the odds of a draft (or national service as Tony Snow called it) if * is given a majority of repubs in the house and senate? He will have no checks or balance and there will be no chance that he and his war pig pals would ever be impeached? This notion has been bouncing around my head for a few weeks now.

thanks

4. Odds of a draft?
I couldn't call that one, BUT we are approaching the point where the bu$h regime is going to lose its majority in Congre$$--either this November or November '08. Either way, bu$h's puppet masters are facing their Go/No Go point as regards the draft.

They've put enough "laws" in place (with the complicity and enabling of Vichy Democrats) that any investigation or punishment of them for their crimes will take years--if not decades--to come about, ESPECIALLY given the Democrats' tendency to make nice, "play fair" and dither as long as possible in the hope that it will be perceived as "doing something." The regime's continued profit-taking from Iraq depends on that conflict dragging out as long as possible. More Time = More Weapons that have to be replaced = More Money for GE, et al. The converse also holds true: Fewer Troops = Longer War. So, the Lizards walk a fine line when it comes to sending in more troops.

What I fear most from this regime is a scorched-earth policy, a la the First Hitler. The Bush Family Evil Empire can pretty much do as they please for the remaining two years of the Boy King's rule and then flee to their hundred thousand acres in South America. (Does that sound familiar?) IF they want to send a few more tens of thousands of American troops to their certain deaths and/or debilitating head injuries in Iraq, it will not matter a damn whether the Democrats control both Hou$e$ of Congre$$ or none. BFEE will do as it pleases and the Constitution be damned. We have ample evidence of that right now.

What I am trying to say, itsmesgd, is this: since the Supreme Court decided that IT gets to elect the president, the Rule Of Law is an Inoperative Statement.

10. Not likely, imho.
The cartels that run the Rupuke party make too much money renting the government mercenaries for there to be a draft under a Repuke administration. If we ever have a draft again, it will be under a Democratic administration.

just my 2 cents ...

3. maybe so, but what a lot of jingoistic bullshit
The police are infilitrated by homegrown insurgents fighting for their own interests, not "murderous pro-Iranian militia." And perhaps this dumbass should read some actual history about how well this "Iraqification"-type activity with indigenous forces went down in Vietnam.

What is one of the most interesting facts one can realize about the Vietnam War? That most of the Vietnamese people suddenly stopped dying from bombs dropped by B-52s, gunshot wounds, napalm, etc. once the Americans finally just packed it in and left.

6. A friend of mine was just called up last week
He spent a year there already and thought he was done with Iraq. He's going to the green zone in Bagdad as an mp. He's leaving week before Christmas. He said they are going through troops way faster than expected, whatever that means. I have a feeling I know what that means. :(

about possibly being re-deployed to Nam, we split for Canada.

There's a whole lot of things worse than hanging out in a civilized country where there are adequate social programs, great opportunities for education, and no chance at all of being killed by an IED

Plus the natives are friendly and speak the Queen's English

13. ain't that many that haven't already been called up . . .
if they're going to continue in Iraq -- and engage in whatever other adventurism is on their agenda -- then there's gonna be a draft . . . A + B = C . . .
