AP Press Bias - Wording is EVERYTHING.
Check out this carefully worded AP lead:

WASHINGTON - Senate GOP leaders plan to confirm Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito early next week after dealing with a filibuster threat from Democratic die-hards who worry that the conservative judge would swing the court too far to the right.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11058352/from/RS.1/

Those worrying Democratic die-hards!

It's a good thing Senate GOP leaders plan to confirm him...like they alone are capable of it.

This happens all the time these days, but in journalism school they teach you that this exact kind of thing is strictly forbidden. Using words that speculate as to the opinions without quotations like "worry" and "die-hard" is not allowed.

The media is in serious need of reform. EVERYONE carries the Associate Press. If it flies there, it flies EVERYWHERE.

2. Careful study
and the name in the byline of these squibs will show that the wording is very often biased against Dems. On the other hand, as "contenders" the Dems seem to be habituated to playing into that hand and delivering gripes and fears to these ears. But then they never have to quote the source and maybe not even have a source for these gossip column style mini reports that all papers use as fillers, even on front page news they could have bloody well written on themselves.

They get away with murder even with the professional newspapers who should see right through it.

Rarely, the Repugs start griping and turning on their own. Maybe the bias against the contender out of power will show itself against them someday.

But I doubt it unless someone cleans house on corporate media. What we do require, as multiple examples prove, is a public media, but not government financed. NPR shows the public even under bad goverment can keep some semblance of authenticity which is impossible in corporate media. better still to pry the other claw loose with total public financing, no big donors, no special interests.

6. Should be:
Senate GOP leaders plan to confirm Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito early next week if a rumored filibuster threat from Democrats concerned about the judge's conservative stances doesn't derail the hearings.

(Sharper, too)

8. More like:
Senate GOP leaders said they had the votes to confirm Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito early next week if a rumored Democratic filibuster fails to garner sufficient support.

7. If you go to Google news main page at the moment it has an
N.Y. Time article there that say Kerry is off in Davos, Switzerland "hobnobbing". Then when you click on the actual article it says "mingling" instead of hobnobbing. Something truly stinks in Denmark.
