"This morning on ABC, George Stephanopoulos asked Vice President Cheney if he would testify before Congress if he was subpoenaed. Cheney said "probably not in the sense at that vice president and president and constitutional officers don't appear before the Congress."

"I think it would be disastrous. It is basically saying he is above the law, he doesn't have to comply with the law," said Senate Majority Whip Don Nickles of Oklahoma on NBC's "Meet The Press." "Everybody else in America has to comply with subpoenas (while) he's saying he wouldn't. … I don't think that would be sustainable."

“ (he)…. has an obligation as the highest official in this government, sworn to uphold the Constitution and the laws of this country. Ohh wait.. Nickles and Hatch were talking about sitting Democratic President -Bill Clinton- answering a subpoena from Ken Starr, I wonder what they will say when Cheney is served.

Clinton was being subpeoned to testify in court and by a special prosecutor appointed to investigate the President.

Cheney being subpeoned to testify before COngress in an open-ended fashion is a different matter and raises different Constitutional issues.

I share people's opinions of Cheney but this comparison doesn't really wash.
