Cheney: I Would "Probably Not" Testify Before Congress Even If Subpoenaed..” Part 2
Edited on Sun Nov-05-06 01:15 PM by solara
"This morning on ABC, George Stephanopoulos asked Vice President Cheney if he would testify before Congress if he was subpoenaed. Cheney said "probably not in the sense at that vice president and president and constitutional officers don't appear before the Congress."

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2006/11/05/cheney-i-would-probably_n_33300.html

"I think it would be disastrous. It is basically saying he is above the law, he doesn't have to comply with the law," said Senate Majority Whip Don Nickles of Oklahoma on NBC's "Meet The Press." "Everybody else in America has to comply with subpoenas (while) he's saying he wouldn't. … I don't think that would be sustainable."

“ (he)…. has an obligation as the highest official in this government, sworn to uphold the Constitution and the laws of this country. If he doesn't do that, I think public opinion would turn overwhelmingly against him," said Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch of Utah on CBS's "Face The Nation."

Ohh wait.. Nickles and Hatch were talking about sitting Democratic President -Bill Clinton- answering a subpoena from Ken Starr, I wonder what they will say when Cheney is served.

3. Tell me which country on planet earth is willing to harber Bush-Cheney et al. now???
If he went to Europe, the French, the Germans, the Spanish, and a whole bunch of others would be more than happy to arrest them and haul them before the Hague for the crime of launching a war of aggression.

12. Paraguay's probably a beautiful country but after being king of the world
and then just king of your hundred thousand acres in... Paraguay??

And I'd bet that if he did actually FLEE in the conventional criminal sense of escaping justice, he'd be a fugitive forever - shot on sight if he emerged from his bolt-hole, or captured and hauled off to the Hague (oh please, oh please, oh please.....)

7. I would like nothing better
than to see Cheney (and the rest of those vermin, for that matter) hauled to the Hague. Cheney is EVERY BIT as guilty of crimes against humanity, 600,000 to be exact, as Saadam Hussein ever was. :evilfrown:

13. Different situation

Clinton was being subpeoned to testify in court and by a special prosecutor appointed to investigate the President.

Cheney being subpeoned to testify before COngress in an open-ended fashion is a different matter and raises different Constitutional issues.

I share people's opinions of Cheney but this comparison doesn't really wash.

Maybe I am just being idealistic, but who is to say Cheney wouldn't be investigated and Bush right along with him? His answer would be the same, I am sure.
