Has Doonesbury gone soft?
It's the week before the election, and Doonesbury has been running a rerun strip about McFriendly's, and a Sunday strip about Alex at MIT (yawn). In fact for the whole month prior to the election, he's only done one week on politics, the great "fear itself" series, and a great Sunday strip about how Dem's should set up straw men like the Con's do. The rest have been about Gay divorce, and Alex and Duke- Not even anything about BD or Ray...
I guess I'm disappointed- Doonesbury has provided inspiration, entertainment and relief from the Nixon, Reagan and Bush years, and I was hoping there would be some consistent intensity leading up to the election.
(sigh) I miss the "Guilty, Guilty, Guilty!" years...

1. That cowboy hat with nothing under it--

should be honored in history. Can't find it in me to knock Doonesbury for the present when it always leads the way.

7. actually, the cowboy hat has an "*" (asterisk) under it...
but I prefer the deteriorated emperor's helmet with the asterisk...

2. AAR running "best of" Young Terks yesterday afternoon
Apparently a major election in our lifetimes is only marginally more important that just another day to some?

3. No, give the guy a break.
He's been incredibly "intense" day in, day out for DECADES.

Even GOD took a day off, knowhutImean?

4. Thank you.
There is a tendency on DU to hammer undying leftwingers when they don't follow some script of neverending screeds against the right. We've heard laughable criticisms against Keith Olbermann, Al Franken, National Public Radio, and dozens of others.

5. I think GBT has done some of his finest work in recent years...
...in particular, since he began the story arc of B.D. losing his leg in Iraq.

Every bit as powerful as "Guilty, guilty, guilty!", in a multitude of subtle ways.

6. I agree GBT has done some of his best work lately...
I was just bemoaning the lack of hard hitting strips in this crucial month prior to the election, in particular the reruns of the past week...I mean, didn't he take a vacation in the summer? ;-)
