16. Thus proving the "Where they gonna go?" rule
So long as progressives put up with this stuff from Democrats, this stuff will happen.

It's really very simple. The religiously insane have more balls than the progressive left. They were willing to put up with a Democratic PResident (i.e. Bill Clinton) for eight years rather than compromise their principles and vote for George H.W. Bush.

Yes, yes we can expect a HELL of a lot more from him
it's called the courage of one's convictions and speaking truth to power. "Better of con dem vs. a con repub" is meaningless if Alito gets in.

It's called standing up for what is right.

9. that's an easy one
He knows damn well and good, everybody who wants a filibuster will still be voting for him come November.

Safe play by Ford. He might pick up a few votes but by the "where else they gonna go?" rule, he still gets all the people in Tennessee who want a filibuster de facto.

30. 1992
The religiously insane, rather than compromise their values, stayed home in droves and the Republican candidate, George H. W. Bush, lost to Bill Clinton.

They threw the "Where are they gonna go?" rule out the window.

Ever since then, they have been carefully pandered to by the GOP and thus, they set the agenda for the party.

Ford supports up or down vote on Alito

Washington, D.C. - Congressman Harold Ford, Jr. today called for the United States Senate to conduct an up-or-down vote on whether to confirm Judge Samuel A. Alito, Jr. to the Supreme Court. In a statement, Ford said:

“I do not believe that Judge Alito’s nomination should be held up by a filibuster. Absent extraordinary circumstances, nominees to the Supreme Court deserve an up-or-down vote. From Judge Alito’s testimony and from all of the information that has come to light during his confirmation hearings, it does not appear that there is any reason to hold up a vote. I hope my colleagues in the Senate will move quickly to bring this process to a dignified end.”

33. Is the usual going on?
The DLC plunge to obscurity STILL presuming it has the final say, party, people, reason be damned, and when Kerry breaks away they are surprised into doing Hillary did: Uh OK we'll fight, or the truly duncified who will fight for the GOP?
I am beginning to think maybe this wasn't organized completely during their last meeting. It certainly looks more typical.
