The Alito nomination has shown a need for us to mobilize locally.

We at DU are making great strides with our activism. We've worked together to create a mobilized community that is strongly influencing our voice as citizens.

Regardless of the outcome of this nomination, we need to build from what we have established.

I think the DU/Progressive's greatest need now is to mobilize locally so that we can better address the issues facing us and be better equipped to come together in cities nationwide to meet with our state and local legislators. The Alito nomination is a great example of how much influence we could have if we had met at our Senators' offices around the country to support a filibuster.

Many of us have spoken for a while of creating DU local groups and/or becoming more involved in our local Democratic groups. Now is the time to do it. What I find interesting is how valuable it would have been to meet at our local Democratic offices to address this nomination. Where were our local Democratic offices in dealing with this nomination? They deserve to hear from us and we deserve to know where they have been in opposing this nomination. I am in Los Angeles and I heard nothing from my local office in any capacity about the Alito nomination and I feel that is unacceptable.

So how do we continue to move forward and become a more visible and viable voice?

How do we mobilize better locally and within our neighborhoods?

I believe now this is what we must do in order to be more influential in making our concerns known and in connecting better with our local, state and Federal leaders. We cannot continue to be disconnected from those who are making decisions that impact our daily lives. This includes connecting with those Republican leaders and regardless of what they say, we must make them more accountable and at the same time build relationships with them as well.
