Head On - Right Into the DLC
I think they need to be reminded that the far left voted for Nader in 2000. And the far left supported Kucinch and Dean over Kerry. Gore and Kerry did not represent the far left when they were running and they don't represent the far left now. Alito is a mainstream Democratic issue.

They will probably tell you the DLC took no position on Alito. I don't believe that, but if they didn't, then what the hell does that say about their priorities anyway.

2. Ahem....

"And Samuel Alito appears to fill the bill. Despite his artfully expressed testimony in the Senate Judiciary Committee, it's clear Judge Alito embraces an "originalist" view of constitutional interpretation, along with therecent, unbalanced conservative tendency to police congressional powers but not executive powers.
Democrats in the Senate, and elsewhere, have no obligation to help Bush redeem this divisive campaign pledge. Given Judge Alito's long and consistent record of conservative activism on and off the bench, it is prudentto oppose this confirmation as a matter of principle, reflecting the gravity of a lifetime appointment to a closely divided Court. 8. Then they lied to me
Because they just said they took no position on Alito.

I didn't think they supported his confimration, I don't think they are supporting the filibuster though. And I think all the trash in the media is coming from them and their ilk, "party leaders", and possibly Hillary too although she says she supports the filibuster. Easy enough to say you support something and then send out a bunch of surrogates to beat it down for you.

12. It says nothing
Except exactly what I said. "Party Leaders" are fighting the filibuster, the DLC has lied to me about taking a position on Alito, I want to know who is shaking what trees. I have a right to know that and every other Democrat should want to know too. I don't care if it's the DLC Hillary bunch, or the Blue Dog bunch, or who it is. I am sick of a bunch of faceless DC pols dictating the policies that have direct consequences on my life.

and it's just more tedious DLC bashing without substance.

15. Oh right
Because I have such a looong history of DLC bashing. :eyes: Mr. Benchley, you're off the mark on this one. Somebody is controlling the Democratic message in DC and in the media and I want to know who it is. And no, I don't think it is as simple as corporate RNC talking points anymore. I think there is a Democratic contingent that DOES get their message out and that's what we keep hearing and attributing to corporate whoring.

3. Dean's supporters were not "far left."
But I agree with the essence of what you're saying and think you have a very good plan going. :hi:

7. The essence
is in response to the idea that this is the Kennedy/Kerry far left, which is what the red state Democrats are having problems with. If they don't get support from the DLC, they won't get it anywhere. It makes no sense to let that idea hang out there, because it flies in the face of the reality of who voted for who in 2000 & 2004. It just seemed like a good way to give the DLC a reality check, because they certainly know who voted for who and that nobody was voting for Lieberman or Gephardt.

10. thanks for framing this in such a divisive manner
I guess that's what it takes to argue on behalf of principles over agitprop rhetoric. :sarcasm:

seriously, it's pretty telling when core principles that Leftists have long fought for and struggled to achieve for ALL Americans, is used as a tool to further demonize the Left.

There are a few choice words for that, i won't mention here.

13. It's FOR the DLC
And you bet I'm calling THEM on THEIR divisiveness. THEY are the ones who are labeling this a fringe leftist cause. Well that flies in the face of all logic, when you consider the left didn't want Gore or Kerry. If the left had any sense, they'd make that point every day.
