I...
...am going out to have a drink with friends. To calm my nerves, to watch a bad football game, to close down the frontal lobe for a little while before things unfold in the morning. I'm going to have a drink for my grandfather, Kermit, who passed in his sleep yesterday afternoon, peacefully, in his own bed, in the house he has lived in for some fifty years.

...and I will have a drink for success tomorrow, for luck in the weather so turnout is good, for hard-fought campaigns and a little truth-telling here and there, for the acrid stench of Republican flop-sweat that will be running in rivers down the streets this long, sleepless night.

...and I will have a drink for you, for all of you who have gutted all this out for so long, who make the calls, make the donations, hold the signs, work the campaigns, canvass the neighborhoods, inform the uninformed, and hold the line.

...and before you worry, that's only one drink. :)

...The second one's for me, so I can sleep tonight. Anything after that will be dedicated to the Great Wah.

Stout hearts, all. Stand strong and true. This drink, and this election, and this democracy, is for you.

20. Will, I'm drinking a bottle of wine for you tonight.
...I'm drinking a bottle for success tomorrow, too. There are a LOT of Repubs at work who are voting Dem because this administration has screwed us so badly (I'm an air traffic controller).

...I'm drinking a bottle for the people who put in long hours working a job and then working to get out the vote.

...I'm drinking a bottle for those who work two or three jobs and still take the time to vote tomorrow.

...I'm drinking a bottle for those who dare to see our potential as a nation and work to make it happen.

..and before you worry, that's only one bottle.

...the second bottle's for me ;)

44. I'm so sorry about your grandfather, Will.
I'm sure he was a very special man--he definitely has a very special grandson.

And you, my friend--thank you for everything you do every day to keep up our spirits, to rally us to action, to inspire us.

While I don't have a lot of hope about my local races here in OKC, I have greater hope for the nation as a whole. I think I'll put a nice bottle of wine in the fridge so that I can celebrate tomorrow night's victories.

I'm thinking Wednesday may be a blur for a lot of us--w00t!

Hugs to you!
