Are you a morning voter or an evening voter?
For some reason, I love to vote at night. I leave work with a couple of hours to spare, go get a Caramel Macchiato at Starbuck's (please don't attack me for my guilty pleasure) and sit for a few minutes with my voting guides and notes in front of me to make sure I've got everything down, then I walk up to the church where I vote, cast my vote, and head home feeling a tremendous rush.

Anyone else have voting rituals? Are there good things and bad things about voting early or late? What say you?

1. I like to vote in the morning before work
I'd probably lose my head at work if I didnt' vote by the time I got there. Then I know my part is done, now it's time to glue my face to DU all day and night to watch what happens

3. Tomorow, I'm an afternoon voter.
I work from 6:00am until 2:00pm tomorrow and then go back in from 10:00pm until 6:00am. I'll be voting between shifts.

11. You should get an award for voting while working those hours!!
When do you plan to sleep? You are definitely a patriot. A sleepy patriot.

22. Actually, I'm just an air traffic controller...I do this every week.
...but thanks :)

After I vote, I have to get a tire fixed on my car and then sit in the passenger's seat for an hour while my son (15 years old...has his temps, practicing for his driver's license) scares the hell out of me ;)

Then I make dinner. Then, I'll get an hour or so of sleep.

Like I said, I do this every week. No big deal...

For the safety of all involved they should pay you more and have you work fewer hours!!

Thanks for keeping us safe in the air - now gets some sleep! :7

31. From your mouth to Marion Blakey's ears...
Edited on Mon Nov-06-06 08:53 PM by MercutioATC
(Marion's the current Bush-appointed FAA Administrator...and she bears a striking resemblance to the Wicked Witch of the West)

Thanks for the kind words. It's a much less pleasant environment at work since Labor Day when the FAA departed from collective bargaining and imposed a new "contract" on us, but our (controllers') mission is the same...we get you home safely.

A lot of people have lost their jobs and homes in the past six years. Some have lost their lives. Those are the real heroes of our day...

4. I have to vote early.
I get so excited that I can not wait until evening!!!! Your Starbuck's idea is a great one though. I always take my 14 year old with me so she is comfortable with the voting process when she becomes old enough to vote and then we go shopping and to lunch together. It is a great mother-daughter day. She knows how excited I get and she can not wait until she is old enough to participate.

10. anytime is ok with me
I used to vote in the afternoon because I could get an idea of the turn out before the 9-5ers get out to vote. Lately though, I have gone in the morning because I take a few seniors with me and they like to go in the morning. Then, I hound my son until he has gone.

I will go in the morning tomorrow, vote with my senior friends, then go to work. I will stay busy until dark at work, then come home and log on to DU, grab the remote and surf the channels until I hear something good!

13. Me, always PM
I vote on the way home from work, since I leave when before the polls open. Always ask about turnout - but since I live in a red precinct, hope that number is low.

I hadn't thought of that. I do like the sticker...maybe I'll wear it all day on the 8th and point and laugh every time the office Repub walks by. (Okay, I wouldn't really point and laugh; she could have voted blue. But I'll feel smugly superior anyway.) ;)

17. When our kids were little we took them with us,
now that they're teens, my husband and I go early in the morning. During the last primary, my husband was #2 voter and I was #3.

Thank's for a chatty subject. I've been so tense about the elections, I feel like I'm going to jump out of my skin.

I can't concentrate on work at all, and I've read everything on DU already. Heh.

40. I take my kids with me as well
My mom always took my brother and sister and I with her. It was a great education in the importance of voting. I have always taken my kids with me. In fact my son (10) just asked me, "When are WE going to vote?"

28. Re: Starbux
I get ya there. Although their donations aren't large, they're 100% Blue (http://www.buyblue.org/node/1898/view/summary). Besides, they took a real risk coming to my very transitional neighborhood, when no independent coffeehouse would. Additionally, our new Starbux sponsored "live mic nite" this summer and "scary movie nite" in Oct. In both cases, all you were asked to do was buy a drink and give a donation to a local homeless shelter. So I'm hell ya, I'm supporting them, they've been a real asset to our neighborhood.

32. 7:15 A.M. before I drop my son off at school.
It's a tradition. I vote, I show him how to mark the ballot...ALL DEMOCRATS, of course. Then, I give him my usual "voting is the most important thing you can do" lecture on the way out of the polling place and off to school he goes. We have done this since he was born. He has voted with me in every General and mid-term since 1993.:hi:

34. Morning, after I drop my boys at school
They are both quite young (4 and 5), so I don't take them with me as yet.

My husband votes in the evening after work and he's planning on taking the 5 year old with him to explain how important a duty voting is in our society.

39. I'm going in a few minutes
I'm a teacher, and we always have a teacher's work day on election day - county staff development. Usually I am in meetings all day and have to go vote around 5. Today I lucked out - my meeting isn't until 12, so I am playing hooky from work this morning and going to vote at 9.

My only voting rituals begin after the polls close. My friends always gather at my house for chili and beer and we watch the returns together.
