Do you vote for local judges? And if so, how do you get information on them? |
|
There are about 14 judicial elections on my ballot, but almost no information about these people. Only 2 of these people submitted any statements printed in the "Voter Information Guide" that is part of my sample ballot. And even those are basically resumes, they don't really state what the candidates stand for. I usually just leave the judicial elections blank, because I have no way of knowing who these people are or what their views are. Do you vote on these?

1. That has always been a problem for me also. Given today's |
|
judicial climate I am even more concerned about the philosophy of our judges.

Bless your heart, I guess there are some benefits to living in nowhere land :P Actually, here we just know them. I'm on a first name basis with them, and I'm not even "from here" as the locals like to say! I vaguely remember living in the real world, though, and pretty much went the route you're going. I also found it very helpful to keep up with the local news throughout the year, to see their rulings. Internet searches are big help these days. Good luck--I'll be seeing one of our judges at a party Saturday night :)

Google their name, and circuit if they're already sitting. I always find info that way, even if it takes a bit of studying decisions/backgrounds. Also check your local tv station sites and online newspapers; sometimes they have information about the judges as well as commissioners, etc.

Oh, ok, that's never happened to me, but I did know an old wino once who used this as his criteria! :)
