I'm concerned -- PLEASE READ. |

If some are calling Senators and misrepresenting your home state, I expect this to be found out and thrown at us, bigtime. Is this happening?
They pounce on anything to make us look bad. IMO, this is not worth it. By all means, call, e-mail, and fax Senators from other states, but I think we should be honest about our residency. I'm putting my primary efforts into repeat calls to my own Senators, as things develop, and contacting Senators from other states as well.
ON EDIT: I wanted to echo some responders in this thread -- these Senators, indeed, represent all of us, and our country. This decision will affect all of us. This is a good point to make when calling Senators from other states.

1. I tell them exactly who I am and where I'm from. |
|
Everyone always talks to me. I have had some rude, but most talk if you are civil to them.

I have called out-of-state Senators and told their staffers I am not a constituent and they have registered my opinion anyway.

I tell them I'm not a constituent, but we are all affected by this. Most have been very polite, especially considering the volume of calls.

They've all been very nice to me. Even the lady at the DLC. I do tell them that there's only 100 Senators so we have a right to expect them to look after all of us.

I'm honest about not being a constituent, but make it clear that their vote impacts all Americans equally, hence we all have the right to call and voice our opinions and concerns.

That I'm from CT - and I purposely do that first, because it's the truth, and secondly, I make a point to tell them that I'm making a toll call out of state BECAUSE I feel so impassioned and concerned for our future.

17. My Senators ask for an address not because they only care... |

about their state, but because they want to send a letter from the Senator, and probably add a name to their mailing list. I'm just suggesting that we should be honest about our residency.

I agree we shouldn't lie but I also stand by my statement that this decision affects the whole country and their vote DOES matter to me, even if I live in another state.

23. They do, but I've called often before, and know why they are asking -- |
|
so after a number of letters on whatever subject I've called about, I now just tell them that they don't need to take staff time to respond with a follow-up letter. I identify my town when I give my name at the beginning of the call -- and remind them that I have contributed to their campaigns!

24. Just because you're calling from a phone doesn't mean you live there |
|
it is best to be honest and I always am - closest I've been to dishonest is calling for my sister who lives in another state - but told her I was going to do it because I knew she'd never get around to it.....but if you think the right wing doesn't do this you are kidding yourselves...
and I agree whole heartedly that this is a very national issue - lifetime appointment you bet I call everyone of them and oh by the way for those of you who are Dems you most certainly are a constituent of every freaking one of the Democratic party senators who are suppose to be an opposition party to this filthy administration.

22. I am telling them EXACTLY where I am from in my conversations and |
|
in my emails. Except, some senators, like Senator Byrd, had their emails set up to only accept zip codes from the area. I put in my street address with that zip code, and then clarify in my email. I make sure they UNDERSTAND that this affects us all...not just their constituents. My daughter may BE their constituent some day. :hi:

27. I have made the point of considering this a national issue |
|
to all that gave the opportunity to do so. For example, if using a web form from their site, I only found ONE form that would not allow you to select a different state from a drop down menu. That was Oregon. I have recived only two responses from those forms that said they do not respond to messages from outside their district and to respond with my location for a response. When I responded, I said right up front that I was not from their state, but this issue was bigger than just one state. But, I responded all the same and gave them the information that they requested.
That might be one wall we need to break down. We need to get them to acknowledge that some of these issues are about more than a project for their own state. With so many saying that this is one of the two most important votes they ever get, should we not be allowed to state our case where these votes are concerned, sans borders? I think we should.

going to hurt for everyone to call The DC offices of their Senators, as well as the local offices in their state.. That is all I've ever advocated.. All I said was to call the DC offices of your Senators, and the local offices too.. I don't see the harm in that..
