Jewellery for Laura, with love from Bush

Laura and George W. Bush

Crawford, Nov. 5 (AP): It’s bling again for Laura Bush’s birthday.

For the second year in a row, President George W. Bush gave his wife jewellery for her birthday. This year, it is a triple-strand necklace with amber-coloured citrine, a November birthstone.

The Bushes were celebrating last night with four other couples over Mexican food at their Texas ranch. The President and First Lady reunited after two days of campaigning separately for candidates in the Congressional elections.

Bush teased his wife during his rallies. “I’m not going to tell you her age,” he said on Friday in Iowa, “but we were both born in the same year, and I turned 60 this year.”

Laura celebrated her 59th birthday last year in Argentina, where she and the President were attending a summit of the Americas. She was given a coconut cake on board Air Force One and Bush gave her a green glass stone necklace and matching earrings. The Bushes have another reason to celebrate tomorrow. It is their 29th wedding anniversary.

1. Shouldn't Halliburton, Phizer, and Exxon send her something really nice?
Perhaps Paraguay.

7. He could have spent as much as $1000 for it, see link
I bet that was a tough amount to part with unless he got something cheaper at ebay.

There is one here for about $98...

11. Citrine is cheap, but it has some nice magical qualities.
Not that probably anyone in the WH knows or cares, but it's a good gift for Pickles. It must be hard to be her--her aura probably needs some pretty intense cleansing.

12. I love citrine!
I have to confess, I thought that was a pretty cool gift... until you pointed out that Bush wouldn't know about its qualities.

Still, it's pretty.

19. This is the most powerful man in the world
and filthy rich to boot -- and he's too cheap to give his beloved wife diamonds? And as for "I'm not going to tell you how old she is, but..." That is just tacky.

But then what he was really giving was a photo-op for himself.
