This is your brain on Pentecostalism

PHILADELPHIA, PA, United States (UPI) -- Pennsylvania researchers are documenting brain functioning when Pentecostals engage in glossolalia, or so-called speaking in tongues.

U. Penn School of Medicine researchers said Tuesday they have discovered decreased activity in the frontal lobes, an area of the brain associated with being in control of one`s self.

***************************************************************

Maybe this is why some kids undergoing Pentecostal exorcisms sometimes die, Could it be because to speak in tongues which is often done during exorcisms ,Pentecostals really do give up their inner locus of control, and just like voodoun practitioners being rode by a loa, they become "possessed" themselves and lose control, lose their ego,and kill..This finding is revealing, frightening and eerily true because as an ex Pentecostal I know it is true, that giving up control is WHY people in these types of belief systems want to have tongues ,it is a sign one has given the reins of self control to "god" and submitted. But is it God they are submitting to or something else, how could they know,as they babel-on, they just lost control...?
Christians still debate this tongues issue. In brownsville they barked like dogs..What are the effects of a heart song in the brain? a Chant?, a sing song political speech?.Gotta wonder..

1. interesting article
I've always wondered just what was going on with those folks. I know they feel something but what?

2. I used to do that stuff
It's just group think. I used to babble randomly like I had heard other people babble because I felt like I was an outsider if I didn't do it. I felt like I was doing something wrong, like God wasn't really speaking to me like he was to everyone else. So, yes, I'll admit it, I used to just open my mouth and knowingly babble and moan like an idiot. And I did it just to fit in.

By the way, have you seen Borat? :)

5. So did I
You can convince yourself that anything is real if you're invested enough in it, and being fed enough daily brainwashing. There was definitely a lot of pressure, some subtle, some quite blatant, to "become spirit filled."

3. I went to my first Pentacostal service when I was about 13
at the invitation of a friend. I could not believe it as they uttered (in my mind) gibberish and waved their limbs without restraint. It was spooky.

4. i was about 15 and i just about freaked
suddenly some lady leaps to her feet and starts wailing and moaning. i thought at first folks would subdue her or something until i realized it was part of the 'show'. later i wondered how they decided whose turn it would be each week to speak in tongues. must have been fun to do.

7. It did actually scare me also.
Where was the quiet prayings to the Lord? Seriously, to our Pentacostal friends, this is 100% spooky.

my old Seventh-day Adventist preachers used to insult Pentecostals all the time for being weird. Good thing Seventh-Day Adventists don't believe in weird stuff; Adventists like selling all your possessions every fifty years to wait for the apocalypse, or moving down to Waco to start your own offshoot cult. And don't even mention evolution.:sarcasm:
